Overview

Businesses can create checks for blank stock and print them with a printer, prepare payroll checks with employee details, payments, and deductions, and customize layouts with logos, colors, and text. Accounting software connections can import checks directly. That makes Zil Money a practical fit where check handling needs to sit alongside accounting and payment operations, rather than as a standalone check-printing utility.

The company describes itself as a financial technology provider, not a bank; banking and money movement services are provided through partner institutions and licensed providers. Its stated security measures include encryption, secure data centers, multi-factor authentication, continuous monitoring, and regular assessments. It says it has completed SOC 2 Type I and Type II examinations and is PCI DSS compliant.

Key features

Checks and connected workflows

MICR printing and blank-check support let businesses print checks on their own stock. Payroll checks can carry employee, payment, and deduction details, while layout customization helps make checks match a business’s branding. These tools address check preparation and printing; they do not, on their own, establish a full payroll service.

Direct accounting imports can reduce re-entry when bringing checks into the payment workflow. The integration directory includes QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Gusto, Zapier, Xero, Salesforce, and Slack, among other services. The breadth is useful for businesses already working across those tools, though the value depends on which connections their workflow actually needs.

Mobile payments

The mobile app supports ACH transfers, RTP, wire transfers, printed checks, and eChecks. Users can review and release vendor payments and payroll runs from a phone, which gives responsible staff a way to act on payment workflows away from a desktop. The service is also listed for web and API, though the delivery model is web.

Pricing

Zil Money describes pricing as volume-based, with no monthly subscription fee, customized plans, and discounts for high volume. The free plan is 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly, with limited monthly transactions. It is a low-commitment way to assess the workflow, but the transaction cap makes it a poor fit for sustained high-volume use. A 15-day trial is also offered.

Business has custom pricing and unlimited transactions, making it the more natural option for organizations whose transaction volume outgrows the free plan. Enterprise also has custom pricing and adds Enterprise API access, white-label options, a dedicated account manager, custom integrations, and SLA guarantees. Those additions target businesses that need a tailored integration or service arrangement.

Pay as You Go costs 30.00 USD per once, billed as a $30.00 initial recharge of $30, and permits 3 bank accounts and 3 users. International payments and positive pay use volume/custom pricing, so this entry charge does not describe the full cost of those services. Premium costs 499.99 USD per month, billed $499.99/mo; it includes 500 free credits every month, then charges a 0.19% transaction fee with a $0.10 minimum, applying only after the free credits. That structure suits businesses able to use the monthly credits, but ongoing transactions beyond them incur fees.

Enterprise Custom has custom volume/custom pricing, unlimited bank accounts, and unlimited users. Transaction pricing and check mailing are volume/custom priced, so this tier is aimed at organizations needing scale and a tailored arrangement rather than a fixed monthly bill. No seat or transaction allowance beyond the stated limits is given for the other plans.

Platforms

Zil Money is listed for Android, iOS, web, and API. The web delivery model and mobile payment workflows make it relevant to teams that need phone access as well as browser-based operations. API access is an option on the Enterprise plan.

Who it's for

Small and medium-sized businesses that print checks, run payroll checks, import accounting data, and coordinate vendor payments are the clearest fit. It is less compelling for a business that needs only occasional check printing or wants a predictable fee independent of transaction volume. Organizations should also be comfortable receiving banking and money movement services through partner institutions and licensed providers.

Pros and cons

Pros: Check printing, payroll checks, direct accounting imports, and layout customization cover several common business check workflows in one service.
Pros: The mobile app supports multiple payment methods and lets users review and release vendor payments and payroll runs by phone.
Pros: Free access and several plan structures offer different starting points, from limited monthly transactions to unlimited accounts and users on Enterprise Custom.
Cons: The free plan has limited monthly transactions, and custom-priced tiers require a volume-based arrangement rather than a published fixed price.
Cons: Pay as You Go is limited to 3 bank accounts and 3 users, while its international payments and positive pay carry separate volume/custom pricing.
Cons: Premium's 0.19% transaction fee, with a $0.10 minimum, applies after 500 monthly credits are used, so cost rises with usage.

Verdict

Choose Zil Money if your business needs check printing, payroll checks, accounting imports, and coordinated payment workflows across web and mobile. Its main advantage is bringing these tasks together; its main trade-off is that costs can depend on transaction volume and some banking services run through partner providers. For businesses that need only simple, occasional check printing or fixed costs, a narrower paid or free alternative may be a better fit.
