In their own words
Checkvist
Checkvist is a keyboard-first outliner and online task manager for people who organize work and ideas in lists. Its lists support deep hierarchy, keyboard shortcuts, Markdown, code, tables, bulk operations, sorting and backlinks. Tasks can carry tags, due dates, notes, assignees, file attachments, priorities and progress counters. Lists can be shared privately or publicly with read-only or write access, password protection, expiration times and task assignment. Integrations include Zapier, Dropbox, Google Calendar sync, Jira, YouTrack, Slack, browser extensions and an Open API. Its mobile experience is a progressive web app for iOS and Android that syncs and works offline; the Web Clipper can collect tasks, bookmarks and notes from web pages and services including Gmail, Zendesk, Jira and GitHub. The free plan includes unlimited hierarchical lists and sharing, Markdown, due dates, tags, mobile offline use, browser extensions and Open API. PRO costs $3.90 per person per month, billed at $39 per year, and adds features such as task assignment, repeating tasks, Google Calendar synchronization, 2 GB of file storage and MCP access. A 14-day PRO trial is available without a credit card.
TreeLine
TreeLine is a free, offline information organizer for Linux, Windows, and macOS. It stores records in a tree, with fields on each node acting like a small database. Fields can contain plain or rich text, HTML, numbers, dates, times, booleans, and URLs. One file can hold several node types, each with its own fields and formatting. Search commands find node data, while filters present matching nodes in a flat view. Node output can appear on screen, be printed, or be exported to HTML. Files use JSON and may be compressed or encrypted automatically. Import and export cover plain text, delimited tables, older TreeLine files, Mozilla and XBEL bookmarks, generic XML, and ODF text outlines. Additional exports include CSV, PDF, tab-indented text, and TreeLine format. Windows installers target Windows 10 and 11. Linux installation requires Python 3.9 or newer, Qt 6.4 or newer, and PyQt 6.4 or newer. macOS is not formally supported; a third-party MacPorts version is suggested. The free plan is free under GNU GPL v2 or later.
