Overview

Mainfolk is a website builder with church-oriented pages and an AI-generated starting draft. It best suits small congregations whose staff want to manage routine updates themselves. Its free plan lowers the barrier to starting, but a custom domain and additional editors require a paid tier.

Key features

Church content and editing

Church sites can bring service times, visitor information, sermons and media, events, groups, ministries, and giving into one place. The AI draft can save a church from starting with a blank page, while click-to-edit publishing gives staff control over everyday changes; Mainfolk says updates go live worldwide in under a minute. This is a sensible fit for a congregation that can own its content, rather than one seeking a full-service agency.

Giving pages link to an existing processor such as Tithe.ly, Pushpay, or PayPal, so a church can keep the processor it already uses. Mainfolk also says sites include structured data, semantic HTML, and a site-specific llms.txt to support discovery in search engines and AI answers. Pro adds plain-language visitor activity, referral-source, popular-page, and form-message information. Those insights may help a church understand how its site is being used, but they are not included on the lower paid plans.

Accessibility, hosting, and control

Mainfolk says it builds to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, with semantic structure, keyboard operation, editable alt text for AI-generated images, reduced-motion support, and labeled forms. That is a useful foundation, not a guarantee for every page: uploaded documents and third-party embeds can introduce accessibility problems outside Mainfolk’s rendering engine. Churches adding their own material still need to check it.

All tiers include hosting, SSL, platform updates, security patching, and global delivery, so even Free includes the infrastructure needed to keep a site online. Mainfolk says it does not sell personal information and names Stripe, Mailgun, Cloudflare, and its hosting provider as service vendors. Pages, images, submissions, and subscribers can be exported on any plan; after cancellation, a site continues on Free. That portability reduces the risk of being locked in, though a Free site has a Mainfolk address and footer note.

Pricing

Mainfolk is freemium: Free is $0/month, and paid plans start at $15/month. There is no free trial. Annual billing on paid plans is shown as two months free compared with monthly billing.

Free — $0/month. Includes a yourname.mainfolk.com address, unlimited edits, about 10 AI assists per month, community help, and a footer note. It is a practical way to launch or maintain a basic site without a subscription, but the Mainfolk address and branding are meaningful trade-offs for a church seeking a polished standalone presence.
Launch — $15/month or $150/year. Adds a custom domain, two editors, more AI help, and email support. This is the likely step up for a small church that wants its own domain and has one or two people maintaining the site. It does not include Pro analytics or nine-editor access.
Pro — $29/month or $290/year. Includes Launch features, visitor analytics, nine editors, more AI help, and priority support. It fits a church with a broader staff team or a reason to review visitor and referral patterns; a smaller team with no need for analytics can stay on Launch.
Civic — $149/month or $1,490/year. Adds unlimited staff editors, up to 25 websites, an emergency alert banner, and free site migration to Pro features. The price is hard to justify for a single small congregation, but the multi-site allowance and migration make it the relevant tier for organizations managing several church sites.
White-Glove Design — a one-time $199. Mainfolk’s team designs site pages, words, and photos, while the ordinary plan price still applies. This can help a church that wants a designed starting point without hiring an agency, but it is an add-on rather than a replacement for a subscription.

Plan support rises from community help on Free to email support on Launch and priority support on Pro; Mainfolk also says customers can talk to the engineers who built the platform. Sermon publishing, event calendars, donation links, and custom domains are supported, although the custom domain is a Launch-and-up feature.

Platforms

Mainfolk supports web, Android, and iOS. Its web-building and hosting focus suits church staff managing a site across those platforms; no further platform-specific capabilities are established.

Who it's for

Mainfolk is aimed at small churches that want a site without agency involvement or dependence on a volunteer maintaining WordPress. It is strongest where staff can handle content updates and the congregation values church-specific sections, processor continuity, and bundled hosting. A church needing extensive bespoke design or accessibility assurance across documents and embeds should weigh those responsibilities before choosing it.

Pros and cons

Pro: Church-specific content covers sermons, events, ministries, visitor planning, and giving, reducing the need to assemble these sections from scratch.
Pro: Existing giving processors can remain in place, avoiding a forced change to the church’s donation provider.
Pro: Exporting content and continuing on Free after cancellation give churches a practical exit path.
Con: Free uses a Mainfolk subdomain and footer note, so a church wanting its own domain must pay at least $15/month or $150/year.
Con: Free includes about 10 AI assists per month and community help; churches needing more editing capacity, email support, or priority support must move up.
Con: Mainfolk’s accessibility foundation does not cover problems introduced by customer uploads or third-party embeds, leaving churches responsible for those materials.

Alternatives

For a broader category comparison, browse Church Website Builders. Mainfolk’s church focus makes it the more directly tailored option for the needs described above; the other entries in this list may suit different requirements.

For software outside church websites, see Legal Marketing Software, Dental Website Builders, and Law Firm Website Builders.

Law Firm Central is a web-based legal option with a free hosted firm page, lead form, and basic SEO; choose it when a law firm needs a simple profile rather than a church website builder. Lawmatics is a paid alternative with a free trial and intake, lead management, calendaring, forms, e-signature, SMS, and task management; it is the better fit when law-firm client intake and case-related workflows matter more than a church site. Pantora is a paid website and local-marketing service at $499.00 USD per month, with call answering, follow-ups, and review management; choose it when those services are the priority. Overture Law offers free referral posting and fee-split sharing, making it relevant when attorney referrals are the need. AgencyAnalytics starts at $25.00 USD per month with per-client pricing and all features in one plan, a more relevant choice for agencies managing client reporting. GoBoom, ReferDesk, and Birdeye are other listed alternatives.

Verdict

Choose Mainfolk if a small church wants staff-editable, church-focused pages, bundled hosting, and the freedom to keep its existing giving processor. The free tier is useful for starting out, but churches that need a custom domain should budget at least $15/month or $150/year. Look elsewhere if the site depends on bespoke design or if accessibility concerns in uploaded and embedded content need to be handled entirely by the platform.
