In their own words
CitApp
CitApp helps students create formatted citations from links or DOIs and organize research sources on the web or through a Chrome extension. It supports websites, journal articles, books, PDFs, reports, Wikipedia, news, theses, and videos, retrieving metadata from CrossRef, PubMed, arXiv, and Google Books. Citation options include 17 built-in styles, more than 130 journal and university CSL styles, and custom styles. A Google Docs add-on inserts citations at the cursor and updates the reference list. The free plan imports Zotero, Mendeley, and EndNote libraries and exports to Word, BibTeX, and RIS. The extension saves pages and PDFs, including files behind logins, to a project. Invite links let signed-in collaborators view and add sources. Academic Shield checks wording similarity, section fit, and citation support. Free includes unlimited in-app sources, 10 browser captures weekly, 30 Docs insertions weekly, and 10 Shield checks weekly. Pro costs SEK 99, paid once and removes weekly limits.
CiteMe
CiteMe helps students and researchers generate citations from academic indexes and check reference details. Enter a DOI, ISBN, URL, PubMed ID, or paper title to format source metadata in styles including APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, Vancouver, IEEE, and ABNT; more than 10,000 CSL styles are available on demand. Reference Checker compares references with returned records and surfaces DOI, year, and title differences for review. Sources can be imported from bulk identifiers, PDFs, pasted bibliographies, Lattes CV publications, manual entries, and BibTeX or RIS files. CiteMe lists sources including OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, CrossRef, PubMed, Europe PMC, Google Books, BASE, HAL, and arXiv. Access includes web, Chrome and Firefox extensions, a Microsoft Word add-in, Google Docs, a ChatGPT app, and an API with 40+ endpoints. The free plan is listed at free. A Thesis Pass costs $8.99, paid once for 30 days of Pro without subscription or renewal. Pro’s monthly price is not displayed.
