CitePlain vs Textiaa Citation Generator

CitePlain creates citations and bibliographies from web pages, journal articles, books, tweets, YouTube videos, and podcasts. It accepts URLs, DOIs, or ISBNs, and uses publisher citation and Open Graph metadata, with Crossref lookup for DOIs and Open Library for ISBNs. The free plan includes APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago 17, Vancouver, CSE, and BibTeX, plus a bibliography builder for up to 50 sources per batch. The extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox can read metadata from the active tab and provide BibTeX with a stable cite key for Overleaf or Zotero. Pro adds 24 specialised styles, batch URL import for up to 50 sources, and cloud storage synced across the web app and extension. Free-tier references stay in browser local storage. Pro costs $4.99 a month or $39 a year. Lifetime options are listed at 89.00 USD once and 199.00 USD once. CitePlain describes its focus as individual citations rather than replacing a research reference manager.

Textiaa Citation Generator is a web tool for finding sources and formatting citations. Search by title, author, or DOI, then choose APA 7th, MLA 9th, Harvard, Chicago 17th, IEEE, or Vancouver. A reference can include a bibliography entry and in-text citations in parenthetical and narrative forms. If a search does not find a source, users can enter its metadata manually. Supported source types include books, articles, websites, and theses. Saved references stay accessible in a personal Textiaa space, and citations can be copied into Word, Google Docs, or LaTeX. The FAQ lists PDF, DOCX, LaTeX, and BibTeX exports, with advanced export options for academic projects. The Academic plan lists Zotero, Mendeley, and Overleaf for bibliography. Textiaa says data is encrypted, stored on secure servers in Europe, and not used to train AI models. A free plan is listed at free, with 300 words/month, 5 citations/month, and 20 AI conversations. Pro is $9.60 a month and Academic is $17.60 a month; the listed other prices are $12 /month and $22 /month, respectively. Textiaa is based in Athis-Mons, France.
