CiteWise vs PDFSimpli

CiteWise is a web platform combining citation creation, AI paper discovery, and source organization. It supports APA, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver, Harvard, IEEE, and other citation styles. Users can paste a DOI, URL, or ISBN to retrieve metadata such as authors, title, journal, year, and volume. Plain-language AI search finds academic papers, while a pasted DOI or URL can generate summaries covering findings, methodology, and metadata. My Library provides project folders, full-text search, and filters across saved papers. Bibliographies export as TXT, BibTeX, or RIS for Word, LaTeX, Overleaf, Zotero, Mendeley, and other reference managers. The free browser tier works without sign-up; an account is needed to preserve a library across sessions and use advanced features. Paid plans are Student at €5 a month, Professional at €10 a month, and Expert at €20 a month. Prices exclude VAT, calculated at checkout by location. EU storage, encryption, and GDPR compliance are stated.

PDFSimpli is an online PDF editor and document-management service for editing, converting, signing, and organizing PDFs. Its tools cover text editing, annotations, OCR, form creation and filling, merging, splitting, compression, password protection, electronic signatures, and page reordering. It also describes AI-assisted translation into 130+ languages, document summaries, and audio/video transcription. Users can request e-signatures and choose from 150+ templates for business, real estate, and other needs. The service supports web, Windows, Mac, Linux, and extension platforms. Its upload interface limits submissions to five files, with a 20 MB limit per file. Documents can be stored with Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or Dropbox; PDFSimpli says its cloud storage uses Microsoft Azure and that data is encrypted in transit and at rest. The freemium offering includes a free plan and a 14-day trial. Named plans list unlimited users, edits, and downloads, with additional sharing allowances varying by plan, but no prices are listed.
