In their own words
Claude
Claude is an AI assistant built by Anthropic to help users with work. It is available on web, Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, through an API and as an extension. Claude can search the web, accept file uploads, create and edit spreadsheets, presentations, Word documents and PDFs, and analyze data using code execution. It can also create and share documents, dashboards, diagrams and interactive tools as artifacts; artifact storage is limited to 20 MB and text only. Connectors can link Claude with services including Asana, Linear, Notion, PayPal, Square, Plaid, Intercom, Zapier and Workato. Research, available on paid plans, runs multiple searches and returns answers with citations. Usage limits reset on a rolling five-hour window, and paid plans have additional weekly limits; usage also varies by conversation length, model and features. The Free plan includes limited usage and up to five projects. Pro costs $20 a month or $17 a year, billed $200 up front. Team plans add central billing and administration; Enterprise includes further access controls.
Open WebUI
Open WebUI is a self-hosted interface for local and cloud AI models, designed to run entirely offline. It connects to Ollama and OpenAI-compatible APIs. Installation options include Docker, pip, uv, and desktop setup; the documentation recommends Docker or Python for production deployments. Listed capabilities include voice, vision, retrieval, generation, search, Python extensions, file uploads, image generation, app integrations, and team workspaces. Its extension system supports Filters, Actions, Pipes, Tools, and Skills, and can connect through MCP, MCPO, and OpenAPI tool servers. Knowledge retrieval includes local RAG with nine vector databases, multiple content-extraction engines, hybrid search, reranking, and full-context mode. Organizations can deploy it on-premises, in a private cloud, or in an air-gapped environment. The operator configures where chats and other data are stored; data can be routed externally when external providers, tools, model endpoints, or integrations are configured. The software is free to use as-is with original branding intact. Deployments with more than 50 users must keep Open WebUI branding visible unless an exception applies.
