Overview

Cleeng is a SaaS platform for direct-to-consumer businesses managing subscribers across web and mobile. It is a strong fit for services selling through several channels or with varied payment models; a business that only needs a basic paywall may find its broader toolkit unnecessary.

Its combination of subscriber management, payments, analytics and customer care can consolidate important parts of the subscriber operation. The trade-offs are custom pricing on several plans and a certified-partner requirement for in-app purchases on Pro.

Key features

Core handles subscriber management, ChurnIQ provides subscriber data and churn analytics, Merchant manages payments and checkout, and Hi5 supports customer care. Together, these products address more of the subscriber lifecycle than checkout alone, which is useful for businesses coordinating billing, retention analysis and support.

Cleeng supports subscriptions, live pay-per-view, video on demand, passes, one-time purchases, seasonal plans and live events. Its cross-platform billing covers web, Google Play, Google TV, Apple Store, Apple tvOS, Roku Pay, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Checkout, Android TV, Vizio and direct carrier billing. That breadth suits services selling across app stores and connected-TV channels. However, Pro supports in-app purchases only when they are implemented through a certified Cleeng partner, a meaningful constraint for teams expecting to manage that integration independently.

Pre-built connectors cover identity, data, payment, multi-channel billing, marketing, support and tax workflows. Open APIs and a MediaStore SDK support checkout, purchases, transaction history, account management, upgrades, downgrades and coupons. This gives development teams room to build subscriber journeys around Cleeng rather than relying only on preset flows.

Merchant supports 37 currencies across 230 countries and territories, with tax remittance in more than 13,000 jurisdictions. Cleeng reports 99.9% platform availability, more than 40 million transactions per day and more than 20 million hosted user accounts. Its security measures include encryption at rest and in transit, DDoS protection, access controls with infrastructure two-factor authentication, regular audits, incident response and employee training; it states compliance with GDPR, CCPA, PSD2 and PCI DSS and SOC 2 Type 2 certification. These capabilities matter most to businesses operating internationally or at substantial scale.

Cleeng says its AI-enhanced customer care resolves over 90% of subscriber inquiries, with around 73% handled automatically by its chatbot. That could reduce support workload for a high-volume service, while the figures are vendor-reported rather than a guarantee for every deployment.

Pricing

Cleeng uses a freemium model, with paid pricing from $0.39/mo. Its plans have materially different billing bases, so the right choice depends on whether a business needs payment processing, the broader subscriber platform or a tailored enterprise setup.

Merchant Basic: Free, billed up to 10k subscribers. It includes global payment processing, automatic local tax calculation, and fraud and chargeback management. This is a practical starting point for businesses focused on payments, but it does not convey the broader Core, ChurnIQ and Hi5 product bundle.
Pro: Custom pricing, free up to 10,000 monthly subscribers, then $0.39 per subscriber thereafter, with no setup or monthly fees. It may suit a growing subscription business that wants the broader platform without a fixed monthly charge. The per-subscriber cost above the allowance and certified-partner condition for in-app purchases deserve attention as volume and app sales grow.
Enterprise: Custom pricing, billed per subscriber with tailored pricing and modular configuration for high-volume businesses. This is the more appropriate route for substantial operations that need a configured package; it is less predictable to budget from the outset.
Merchant: Custom pricing, billed per transaction. It covers 37 currencies, 230 countries and territories, and tax remittance in 13,000+ jurisdictions. The plan notes a promo price valid until September 30th, so buyers should confirm applicable terms before relying on that promotion.

One-time payments are supported, and Cleeng lists Adyen, PayPal, Stripe, Primer and dLocal as payment processors. Seat counts, trial terms and renewal terms are not included in these plans.

Platforms

Cleeng is available on Android, iOS, web and through an API. Its billing reach extends beyond those platforms to multiple app-store and connected-TV channels, including Google TV, Apple tvOS, Roku Pay and Fire TV.

Who it's for

Cleeng identifies app agencies, growing startups, content creators, international brands, wellness companies, educators, streaming services and e-commerce businesses as target customers. Its strongest case is for a D2C business that needs several monetization formats, multi-channel billing and subscriber operations in one platform. A small publisher seeking only a straightforward web paywall may prefer a narrower solution.

Pros and cons

Pro: Multiple monetization formats, from subscriptions to live events and one-time purchases, let a business serve different buying patterns without limiting itself to a single subscription model.
Pro: Cross-platform billing, global payment coverage and tax remittance support international sales across a broad set of storefronts.
Pro: APIs, SDK support and workflow connectors give development teams options for integrating identity, billing, marketing and support systems.
Con: Pro's free allowance ends above 10,000 monthly subscribers, after which the stated per-subscriber charge applies.
Con: Pro in-app purchases depend on certified Cleeng partner implementation, which narrows deployment flexibility.
Con: Enterprise and Merchant use custom pricing, making direct price comparison difficult before engaging with Cleeng.

Verdict

Choose Cleeng if your D2C business needs to coordinate subscriber management, varied monetization and billing across web, mobile and connected-TV channels. Its breadth and international payment capabilities are the main reasons to choose it; look elsewhere if you want a simple paywall, transparent custom-plan pricing or Pro in-app purchases without a certified partner.
