Overview

ProductionCrate is a production-asset library and toolset for filmmakers, VFX artists and motion designers who need effects footage, models, music or plugins. Its mix of asset types is its strongest reason to consider it; the five-download daily limit on free accounts is the main constraint for regular use.

The library includes over 10,000 custom-made HD production resources. FootageCrate video reaches up to 4K, and the service permits downloaded materials in commercial and non-commercial projects, provided users do not redistribute the asset files themselves.

Key features

The collection covers visual-effects footage, 3D models, royalty-free music and plugins. That range suits production work that calls for effects material and related assets, rather than only conventional stock video.

FootageCrate assets come in ProRes, MP4 and PNG sequence formats and can be imported into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Nuke and After Effects. ProductionCrate plugins are compatible with After Effects and Premiere Pro. Blender users can import FootageCrate assets through a web-link connection.

ProductionCrate Portal installs, manages and updates plugins, and includes an asset manager for downloaded media. Windows and Mac installers are offered. The FAQ also links to ProductionCrate AR for iOS and browser extensions for Chrome, Opera and Firefox.

PRO adds full library access, higher-quality downloads, three times as much exclusive content and faster downloads from CDN servers. The increased allowance helps frequent downloaders, though it remains capped at 50 per day.

Pricing

ProductionCrate is a subscription service with a free tier and one stated paid plan:

Free — 0.00 USD per free: Basic libraries and five downloads per day. A sensible starting point for occasional use, but the cap can interrupt a busy production workflow.
PRO — 49.00 USD per month, billed per month: Full access to all libraries, up to 50 downloads per day, higher-quality downloads up to 4K on FootageCrate and 11K on GraphicsCrate, three times as much exclusive content, and faster CDN downloads. It fits creators who need broad access and download headroom; the monthly subscription is harder to justify for sporadic asset needs.

The royalty-free commercial license allows use in commercial or non-commercial projects, but not redistribution of the asset files themselves. Transactions are processed by providers such as PayPal and Stripe, which do not share personal payment information with ProductionCrate.

Platforms

ProductionCrate’s platform coverage includes web, Windows, macOS, iOS and extensions. Portal installers are available for Windows and Mac; the FAQ links to an iOS AR app and browser extensions for Chrome, Opera and Firefox. ProductionCrate plugins support After Effects and Premiere Pro, while FootageCrate assets can also be imported into DaVinci Resolve, Nuke and Blender.

Who it's for

ProductionCrate is a strong fit for filmmakers, VFX artists and motion designers who want effects footage alongside models, music and plugins, and who can make regular use of a large library. Free accounts work for light sampling or occasional downloads. Creators who routinely need more than five assets a day, higher-quality files or the exclusive collection have a clearer case for PRO. It is less suitable for users who need to redistribute source asset files or want an unrestricted free download allowance.

Pros and cons

Pro: The library combines footage, 3D models, royalty-free music and plugins, giving production-focused users more than a footage-only resource.
Pro: ProRes, MP4 and PNG sequences, plus compatibility with several editing and compositing applications, support different production workflows.
Pro: PRO raises the daily cap from five to 50 and unlocks full library access, higher quality, more exclusive content and faster downloads.
Con: The free tier’s five-download daily cap limits how useful it is for ongoing or high-volume work.
Con: PRO costs 49.00 USD per month, billed per month, and still limits downloads to 50 per day.
Con: The license does not permit redistribution of the asset files themselves, even though project use may be commercial.

Alternatives

For a broader stock-video search, compare Stock Video Websites; for motion-design templates, see Motion Graphics Template Libraries.

Adobe Stock is a paid option with a free trial and plans described in standard assets, video and rollover credits; consider it if that asset-and-credit structure better fits your buying needs.

Jitter is a web-based freemium option whose free plan includes three workspace files and 720p, 30fps exports; choose it when those export limits suit your motion-design work.

MotionVFX is a freemium option with a free trial and plans spanning motion-design elements, template collections, captions and trackable elements; consider it for that template-oriented offering.

Pixel Film Studios offers free assets and updates with unlimited downloads on its free Starter plan, while its Monthly plan costs 39.99 USD per month, billed monthly, and also includes unlimited downloads. It is worth comparing if download volume matters more than ProductionCrate’s specific library mix.

Videobolt has a free plan and trial, plus a Lite Unlimited plan at 119.88 EUR per year, billed annually, with 720p, 24fps and video-length and cloud-storage limits; consider it if that output model fits your needs.

Allavio offers free sample titles and selected templates for DaVinci Resolve 19 and above; choose it if those templates and that Resolve version meet your needs.

The Resolve Store is a paid option with one-time purchases such as LUT and transition packs; consider it if you want those Resolve assets rather than a subscription library.

Animdock is a free web option with no subscription fees or registration requirement, and exports WebM and PNG.

Verdict

ProductionCrate is a good choice for production creators who want one library for effects footage, models, music and plugins, and can use PRO’s expanded access and 50-download daily cap. Choose the free plan for occasional needs; look elsewhere if the monthly cost is not justified by regular use, if you need more than 50 downloads a day, or if your workflow requires redistributing the asset files.
