Overview

Clockify combines time tracking with project records, reporting and team administration, making it a strong fit for small teams that need more than a simple timer. Its free plan’s five-user cap is a meaningful starting point, but growing teams should weigh paid-seat rules and plan tiers before committing.

Timers, timesheets, calendars and an auto tracker give teams several ways to record work; project tracking, billable time and offline tracking widen its usefulness beyond attendance. The breadth is an advantage, though teams that need advanced workflows or enterprise controls must move beyond the free plan.

Key features

Tracking and project work

Clockify supports timers and timesheets, alongside calendar, auto-tracker and kiosk tools. The free auto tracker records apps and websites, but only the individual user can see that activity. Offline tracking means work can still be recorded without a connection. Project tracking and billable time make the product relevant to teams that need hours tied to client or project work, not just a running total.

Reports and team workflows

Reports, data export and sharing help turn time records into material for review or billing. Invoicing, expenses and rates extend that workflow, while approvals and controls for members, roles and permissions support team oversight. Integrations include Outlook, Google Calendar, Asana, Trello, Jira, ClickUp and Salesforce, among 80+ web apps. Support is available 24 hours a day, every day, including holidays, and Clockify says it is provided entirely by people.

Pricing

Clockify uses a freemium model and advertises a 7-day trial. Its free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes unlimited time tracking for up to five users. That is a practical option for a small team establishing a tracking process, but the five-user ceiling is the first constraint to consider.

Paid plans are billed annually, with every active or invited user occupying a paid seat; deactivated users do not. Clockify says subscriptions can be canceled anytime.

Basic — 3.99 USD per month (billed annually): Adds administration, kiosk, billable rates, data export and sharing, and project templates. It suits teams that need those controls without the higher-tier workflow tools.
Standard — 5.49 USD per month (billed annually): Adds time off, invoicing, timesheet approval, a manager role and task rates. Choose it when approvals or invoicing are central; Basic lacks those named additions.
Pro — 7.99 USD per month (billed annually): Adds scheduling, forecasting, labor cost and profit tracking, budgets and estimates, and expenses. It is the stronger fit for teams that need to plan capacity or monitor project economics.
Enterprise — 11.99 USD per month (billed annually): Adds single sign-on, a custom subdomain, SCIM provisioning, account controls and an audit log. Those controls make it the relevant tier for organizations with identity and administration requirements.

Kiosk plans are narrower: Kiosk Basic is 0.79 USD per month, Kiosk Standard 1.19 USD per month, Kiosk Pro 1.59 USD per month and Kiosk Enterprise 2.39 USD per month, each billed annually per limited seat. They provide kiosk-only access, so they are for limited-seat kiosk use rather than general team access. Productivity Suite costs 12.99 USD per month billed annually per seat and bundles Enterprise features, but excludes data regions.

Platforms

Clockify supports Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, as well as Android and iOS. Desktop and mobile apps are available, which suits teams that need to record time across computers and phones.

Who it's for

Clockify is best suited to freelancers and small or growing teams that want time records connected to projects, billable work and reporting. The free tier is a credible entry point for up to five users; Standard or Pro makes more sense when approvals, invoicing, expenses or planning tools matter. Organizations that require single sign-on, provisioning and audit controls should look at Enterprise. It is less suitable for teams that need more than five free seats or kiosk-only access is not enough on the limited-seat kiosk plans.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited tracking on the free plan gives teams up to five users room to record work without a subscription.
Pro: Project tracking, billable time, reports and export connect logged hours to project and billing workflows.
Pro: The paid tiers separate approvals, planning tools and enterprise controls, letting teams choose the capabilities they need.
Con: Active and invited users each take a paid seat, so adding collaborators affects the subscription even before they log time; deactivation is the exception.
Con: The free plan stops at five users, making it a limited long-term option for larger teams.
Con: Kiosk plans offer kiosk-only access, and Productivity Suite excludes data regions despite bundling Enterprise features.

Alternatives

Consider Harvest if you are an individual freelancer who prefers a free plan explicitly limited to one seat and two projects. Invoice Ninja is a better fit when the priority is invoicing: its free plan includes five clients, unlimited invoicing and 11 invoice templates. Choose Avaza if its free plan’s unlimited project collaborators and separate timesheet, expense, finance and scheduling users better fit how your team is organized.

Paymo may suit a solo user who wants its free allowance of one user, one client, two projects and 1 GB of storage. Teamwork.com is worth considering if a free plan capped at five projects and five users, with 100 automations, better matches a project-management-led need. Timesheets.com offers a free Freelancer plan for a single independent worker managing their own time and expenses, not other workers.

Scoro is an alternative for buyers looking at paid time-billing software without a free plan. Deltek Maconomy is another paid option, positioned as an enterprise ERP for professional services firms with pricing by demo request.

Verdict

Clockify is a sound choice for teams that want flexible time capture and project-linked reporting, with a free tier that supports up to five users. Its main appeal is the range from basic tracking to approvals, planning and enterprise controls; its main drawback is that growth brings paid seats and tier-dependent features. Pick it if that progression suits your team, and look elsewhere if the five-user free cap or kiosk-only access limits are a poor fit.
