Overview

Capture animation one frame at a time from a webcam or built-in camera, then shape it with timing controls and onion skinning. Projects save online and can be resumed on another device after signing in. Finished movies export as MP4, remain in an online library, and can be shared with students, families, or collaborators.

The workflow extends beyond capture and assembly: users can add recorded or imported audio, bring in images, make timelapse sequences, and replace backgrounds with chroma key tools. This range makes the browser workflow useful for classroom projects and personal animation, though some of the more creative tools are reserved for paid plans.

Key features

Frame capture: Capture single frames from webcams or built-in device cameras. Onion skinning helps align successive images, while timing controls help set playback.
Timeline editing: Reorder, trim, and duplicate clips to refine a sequence without leaving the editor.
Audio and visual tools: Import or record music, sound effects, and narration. Image import, timelapse, transitions, and green screening broaden what a project can include, but these features require Personal Premium.
Online projects and sharing: Cloud storage supports continued work across signed-in devices; MP4 export and sharing make it straightforward to deliver a finished animation.
Classroom administration: Organization admins can create accounts individually or in bulk, set up classes and roles, manage permissions, review projects, and monitor storage and subscriptions. Google or Microsoft sign-in is supported, alongside username-and-password accounts for younger pupils and shared devices.

Pricing

Cloud Stop Motion is freemium, with a free individual plan and two paid plans billed annually. The free option includes secure cloud saving and MP4 export, with no card required. It is suitable for personal use, but not for educational use: students at school must be added to an organization account.

Free Starter: Free. A useful way for an individual to start capturing and exporting, but it does not include the paid creative features or provide an account route for school use.
Schools & Organizations: From £3.25 / $4.00 per user per year, with plans starting from 5 users. Each user gets 5GB premium storage, and admins get tools for users, classes, groups, permissions, and usage. The minimum seats make this a better fit for a class or organization than a single learner.
Personal Premium: From £3.75 / $4.50 per year, with 5GB premium cloud storage. It adds green screening, timelapse, transitions, image import, and audio import, making it the relevant upgrade for an individual who needs those tools.

Both paid plans are priced annually; the school option is per user and has a five-user starting point. The school account requirement matters more than the low entry price for anyone planning to use the software with students.

Platforms

Cloud Stop Motion runs in a browser and supports web, Windows, Android, Linux, macOS, and iOS. The maker describes browser use on Chromebooks, Windows and macOS computers, tablets, and supported Android and Linux devices. Because projects are stored online, users can continue across supported devices after signing in, without installing software.

Who it's for

This is a sensible choice for teachers and organizations that want browser-based frame capture and editing alongside account, class, and permission management. The organization plan is designed for multi-user school use, while Personal Premium suits an individual who wants the additional media and green-screen tools. Someone wanting only free personal stop motion can start with Free Starter; a school cannot use that individual account route.

ZuLogic Ltd, a software development company based in Great Britain, created the product. Its privacy policy says personal information is stored in an encrypted Azure database protected by a password and firewall, with data stored or transferred within the US and UK. The support center has a searchable knowledge base, and signed-in users can submit tickets and check their status.

Pros and cons

Pro: A single browser workflow covers frame capture, timeline editing, audio, MP4 export, and online project saving, reducing the need to move a basic animation between separate tools.
Pro: School admins can manage users, classes, roles, permissions, projects, and usage, which addresses practical classroom organization needs.
Pro: The free personal plan includes cloud saving and MP4 export without a card requirement, so an individual can begin without paying.
Con: Free individual accounts cannot be used for education, so school projects require an organization account.
Con: Schools & Organizations starts at five users, which is a poor fit for a single student or teacher needing an education account.
Con: Green screening, timelapse, transitions, image import, and audio import sit in Personal Premium, limiting the free plan for users who need those tools.

Alternatives

For more stop-motion choices, browse Stop Motion Software. Consider MOTK Shoot if a free browser-based capture option is the priority; it also has a Windows local edition and an optional Companion for vendor camera control and RAW capture.

AnimaShooter is a free alternative with a limited Junior plan for USB webcams on Windows or Linux, and it also offers a free trial. Stop Motion Studio has a free plan across Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, with a Pro option for iPhone and iPad sold without a subscription.

Eagle Animation is a free, open-source option with desktop and browser access. qStopMotion is a free open-source application for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

I Can Animate is worth considering if a computer licence suits better than an annual plan; it costs 29.95 GBP per once and has a free trial. Lapse It is a mobile-oriented alternative for Android, iOS, and macOS; its free plan has lower capture resolution and some unavailable features, while Pro supports 1080p Full HD video.

OKIOCAM Stop-Motion is a free option for users working with OKIOCAM, with Windows, Mac OS, and Chrome Extension support.

Verdict

Choose Cloud Stop Motion if you want stop-motion capture, editing, audio, and sharing in a browser, particularly for a school or organization that needs classroom administration. Its free personal plan gives individuals a straightforward way to start, but school use requires a paid organization account starting at five users. Look elsewhere if you need an education account for one user or want the paid creative tools without upgrading.
