Overview

Cloudify uses YAML or JSON to model composite services spanning its own services and other orchestration domains. Cloudify Manager maintains blueprints and deployments, runs workflows, and presents application topology, metrics, and logs. That combination is useful when a deployment has interdependent components to coordinate, rather than a single resource to provision.

The platform supports AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and OpenStack, alongside distributed edge resources. Policy as code, drift detection, resource import, and both state-management modes broaden its reach into infrastructure operations. This makes Cloudify a stronger fit for teams coordinating multiple environments than for those seeking only a Kubernetes-focused platform.

Key features

Service composition and workflows: The DSL models composite services across Cloudify and other orchestration domains, and Manager runs workflows. This helps when deployment steps cross infrastructure boundaries, though it also makes Cloudify more than a narrow provisioning tool.
Integrations: Official plugins cover Docker, Helm, Kubernetes, and Terraform; documented integrations add AWS, Azure, Ansible, and Jenkins. CI/CD integrations are documented for Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI. The range gives teams multiple routes into existing toolchains, but the distinction between official plugins and documented integrations matters when choosing how to connect a system.
Operations and visibility: Manager shows application topology, metrics, and logs while maintaining deployments and blueprints. This brings operational context alongside automation, rather than leaving teams to track deployment state separately.
Security controls: Cloudify describes secret storage, encrypted internal communication, multi-tenancy, and role-based access control. It is also ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certified. The available plan comparison matters: Community does not include the listed RBAC and user, group, and tenant capabilities that SaaS and Premium include.

Pricing

Cloudify Community: 0.00 USD per free, with no time limit. It requires Docker or VM setup and access to a cloud provider to run workloads. This is the practical starting point for teams prepared to operate their own deployment; it is not a hosted, no-setup option.

Cloudify Premium trial: 0.00 USD per free for a 60-day trial. It requires Docker setup and cloud-provider access for workloads. A valid activation license is required, and trial functionality stops when that license expires. The trial is therefore time-limited and dependent on license validity, not simply an unrestricted evaluation period.

Cloudify as a Service trial: custom pricing. A trial account request is required; the service is hosted, but workloads still require access to a cloud provider. This is the option for teams that want Cloudify hosted rather than setting up a Docker container, VM, or Kubernetes deployment themselves.

For SaaS and Premium, the comparison matrix includes users, groups, tenants, RBAC, AD/Okta/SAML, snapshots, and high availability; Community does not. Community's permanent free access is attractive for experimentation and self-managed use, but teams needing centralized identity, stronger access controls, snapshots, or high availability should look beyond it.

Platforms

Cloudify supports API, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows platforms. Community and Premium can run in a Docker container, a VM, or Kubernetes using a Helm chart; SaaS is hosted. The CLI installation options include Linux and Mac binaries, a Windows EXE, a Python package, and Docker. This gives operators several deployment and command-line routes, though self-hosted editions require infrastructure to run Cloudify itself.

Who it's for

Cloudify is aimed at organizations transitioning to public cloud and cloud-native architecture, particularly those automating across infrastructure and edge resources. It is a sensible choice when service composition, workflow execution, and integrations across orchestration domains are central requirements. Teams seeking a hosted service can consider SaaS; teams that need advanced access and availability controls should consider Premium or SaaS rather than assuming Community has the same feature set.

Pros and cons

Pro: Composite-service modeling and workflows span Cloudify and other orchestration domains, making the platform suited to deployments with cross-system dependencies.
Pro: Plugins, documented integrations, and CI/CD integrations cover a broad range of infrastructure and delivery tools, including Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and CircleCI.
Pro: A free Community plan has no time limit, giving teams a way to run Cloudify without a subscription price.
Con: Community requires Docker or VM setup and cloud-provider access for workloads, so the free plan still carries operational requirements.
Con: Community lacks the listed identity, RBAC, snapshot, and high-availability capabilities available in SaaS and Premium, limiting its fit for organizations that need those controls.
Con: The Premium trial ends after 60 days and requires a valid activation license; functionality ceases when that license expires.

Alternatives

For a different route into cloud and infrastructure management, compare Multi-Cloud Management Software, Cloud Automation Software, Cloud Orchestration Software, Cloud Management Software, and Infrastructure as Code Tools.

Kubermatic Kubernetes Platform is worth considering if an Apache-licensed open-source community edition and a separate enterprise edition better match your needs.
Apache CloudStack is a free, open-source IaaS option for readers looking specifically for cloud infrastructure software.
KubeSphere is an alternative for readers seeking an enterprise-grade open-source Kubernetes container platform.
Google Config Sync may fit teams using GKE that want Config Sync included with the service, subject to supported cluster versions and fleet registration.
HPE Morpheus VM Essentials Software is a paid alternative at 600.00 USD per year per CPU socket, including support, for teams comparing a per-socket annual price with Cloudify's free Community option.
OpenNebula offers a community edition with the complete core platform and public open-source releases, as well as a separate enterprise subscription.
Cycle may suit readers who prefer a paid hosted-oriented option with a published Lite plan at 500.00 USD per month, including four servers and four team members.
Control Plane is an alternative with usage-based monthly pricing and no contracts, minimums, or lock-ins.

Verdict

Choose Cloudify if your organization needs to orchestrate services across cloud, cloud-native, and edge environments, and values workflows and integrations that cross orchestration domains. The permanent free Community plan makes it possible to start without a subscription, but requires self-managed setup and gives up the access and availability controls offered by Premium and SaaS. Look elsewhere if you need a narrower Kubernetes platform or want to avoid operating Cloudify yourself.
