Cock.li
Cock.li is a public email host from Cock.li, founded in 2013, offering email accounts and webmail through the web, Android, and iOS. Its services are free, with the Free plan listed at free. Mail access includes IMAP and POP at mail.cock.li, while XMPP is listed at xmpp.cock.li. Registration does not require personally identifiable information. New accounts cannot send mail until the user completes a browser proof-of-work challenge that uses a few minutes of CPU time. Cock-mail is described as an open-source, client-side webmail client connecting directly to the IMAP server over websockets, but its 0.0.1 alpha release lacks major features including SMTP. The privacy policy says registration details, stored mail, XMPP data, and 48–72 hours of IMAP and SMTP logs may be retained. Email is automatically scanned for spam. Account information is encrypted server-side, but mail may travel without encryption when TLS is unavailable or not attempted.
PreVeil
PreVeil provides end-to-end encrypted email and file sharing for defense and regulated industries. PreVeil Drive stores and shares encrypted files, with controls for viewing, editing, and commenting. Email works with Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail, browsers, and mobile devices; Drive integrates with Windows File Explorer and Mac Finder, and is also available in a browser and iOS and Android apps. PreVeil says data is encrypted on users’ devices and only recipients can decrypt it. It replaces passwords with cryptographic keys and uses Approval Groups to distribute administrative trust among multiple approvers. The company says its platform is designed to support CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, ITAR, DFARS, HIPAA, the FTC Safeguards Rule, and CJIS requirements. Data subject to DFARS, CMMC, or ITAR is stored in AWS GovCloud in the U.S.; other data is stored in AWS Commercial Cloud. A free Basic plan includes 5 GB of encrypted storage. Paid plans include Individual at $25 a month, requiring annual payments, and Business at $30 a month per user, with monthly billing available.
