Renesas Flexible Software Package

Renesas Flexible Software Package (FSP) is a free development package for embedded systems built around Renesas RA family Arm microcontrollers. It includes CMSIS packs, board support packages, hardware abstraction layer drivers, RTOS and middleware components, protocol stacks, configurators, code generators, and source files. The drivers are described as high performance with a low memory footprint, and the software is compatible across the RA family. FSP supports bare-metal applications, Azure RTOS, FreeRTOS, and other RTOS environments. For project setup and development, e² studio offers graphical configuration, code generation, and debugging; IAR Embedded Workbench and Arm Keil MDK are also listed through the RA Smart Configurator. Connectivity middleware covers TCP/IP, MQTT, USB, cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth Low Energy. Security features include TrustZone for CM33-based MCUs, secure connections, cryptographic APIs, and secure debugging. FSP is listed as PSA Level 2 Certified and AWS-qualified for FreeRTOS. Installers are offered for Windows, Linux, and macOS, with the 6.6.0 macOS installer for Apple Silicon. FSP 6.6.0 requires e² studio 2026-07 or later. The package is free under a proprietary license, and complete source code is available through GitHub.
