In their own words
CodeDroid
CodeDroid is a mobile-first programming environment for writing, compiling, running, and debugging code on mobile devices. The project describes support for 10 languages, including Python, Rust, Go, and C++. Its editor includes syntax highlighting, autocomplete, compiler error overlays, file management, and persistent editor state. A system PTY-backed terminal and Git console support command-line work, staging changes, viewing diffs, cloning repositories, and pushing or pulling updates. Code runs through system compilers and can access the host device’s filesystem and binaries. A local development server reloads previews when project files change. Offline fallback uses local-first file caching and regex-based autocomplete when the LSP is unavailable; language intelligence can use installed tools such as rust-analyzer, pylsp, clangd, and gopls. Android setup uses Termux and a script that detects ARM64 or x86_64. Desktop wrappers are described for macOS, Windows, and Linux, while iPhone and iPad browsers can connect over Wi-Fi to a compiler server hosted on Android or a PC. CodeDroid is free under GNU GPL v3.0.
Kate
Kate is a free text editor for viewing and editing text files on Linux, macOS and Windows. It can show multiple documents in horizontally or vertically split windows, and supports multi-cursor and column editing. For code and other structured text, Kate provides syntax highlighting for over 400 languages, bracket matching and on-the-fly spell checking. Programming tools include auto-completion with argument hints, scriptable auto-indentation and Vi input mode; the editor uses the Language Server Protocol for auto-completion in many languages. Search and replace handles regular expressions, multiline searches, open files and files on disk. Listed plugins include an embedded terminal, SQL, build, GDB and Replace in Files tools. Kate can open remote files and supports Unicode and other encodings. Backups on save and swap files can help recover data after a system crash. The editor is free, and its listed plan describes it as available for Linux, Windows and macOS. Nightly packages are compiled daily, but may be unstable or incomplete and are recommended for testing.
