In their own words
CodeKeep
CodeKeep is a web and extension service for organizing, sharing and discovering code snippets. Pressing “Paste” on a website opens an Add Snippet dialog, after which snippets can be placed in folders and filtered with labels. Users can share folders, bookmark folders from other users and browse reusable snippets in CodeKeep’s discovery area. A screenshot editor provides templates, image and background additions and social accounts. CodeKeep says its VS Code and Google Chrome extensions import and export snippets, and the site includes dark mode. The Free plan costs nothing and includes unlimited public code snippets, up to 40 folders, up to 20 bookmarks and the VS Code extension. It excludes private snippets and private folders, and screenshots carry a watermark. The Pro plan costs $4.99 a month and adds unlimited private snippets, folders and bookmarks, private folders, folder icons and watermark-free screenshots. The privacy policy says information is retained only as necessary, protected with commercially acceptable measures and not shared publicly or with third parties except when required by law.
Snippet Box
Snippet Box is a free, MIT-licensed self-hosted application for creating, editing, browsing, and managing code snippets in different languages. Its built-in editor handles snippet authoring, while syntax highlighting and detail views help users read code and documentation. Markdown support allows notes or simple documentation alongside snippets. A tagged library supports filtering, and users can pin important or favorite snippets to the home screen. Search covers snippet titles and descriptions, with language and tag filters that can be combined in one query. The project documents Docker deployment and a non-Docker route that runs the built server with Node.js. The listed backend uses Node.js, TypeScript, Express.js, Sequelize, and SQLite; the frontend uses React, TypeScript, and Bootstrap. A Docker example mounts a host data directory at /app/data. Docker build instructions include Linux and ARM targets, including arm/v7 and arm64. The listed plan costs nothing, and no free trial is listed.
