CodePen
CodePen is a web-based social development environment for creating, testing, deploying, sharing and discovering front-end code. In a Pen, users write HTML, CSS and JavaScript and see a live browser preview. It supports HTML preprocessors such as Markdown, Haml, Slim and Pug, and CSS preprocessors including Sass, Less, Stylus and PostCSS. The CodePen 2.0 editor supports automatic preprocessing, live previews, file systems, version history, collaboration and one-click Pen deployment. Users can add external CSS and JavaScript resources, reuse other Pens, find libraries through CDNjs and import bare npm packages through its compiler. Pens can be embedded on other websites, and CodePen documents a REST API and other embed and prefill options. Pens and Projects are public by default. PRO users can make Pens and Collections private, but anyone with the shared URL can view them without logging in. The free plan includes unlimited public Pens and three files per Pen. Starter costs $8 a month, Developer $12 a month and Super $26 a month. CodePen does not offer a self-hosted version.
Wix Studio
Wix Studio is a website creation platform for designers, developers, and marketers working with clients. Responsive design tools include custom breakpoints, responsive AI, and a Figma plugin for importing designs. Developers get a full-stack platform, a VS Code-based IDE, and hundreds of APIs, alongside AI tools for code and images. Built-in business solutions cover eCommerce, events, bookings, and blogging. Teams can edit sites at the same time, collaborate on canvas, and assign roles and permissions. SEO features include server-side rendering, structured data markup, submitted sitemaps, and customizable robots.txt files. Wix describes multi-cloud hosting with automatic scalability, disaster recovery, and a globally distributed CDN. Creating a site is free, with a branded subdomain; paid plans add options such as a custom domain and removal of Studio branding. Basic costs $19 a month billed annually and includes 10 GB of media storage and 1,500 CMS items, but sites on that plan cannot accept payments. The Standard plan is $27 a month billed annually and adds payment acceptance. Wix lists a mobile app for the App Store and Google Play.
