In their own words
Comapping
Comapping is mind mapping software for taking notes, planning, organizing information and sharing it. Its visual maps show connections between information blocks, and topics can be dragged to reorganize them. Notes can hold attachments in any file format. Maps support real-time collaboration for up to 20 active collaborators, with built-in chat; the software also includes task management with on-demand status emails and online presentations. Web, Windows, macOS and Linux are listed platforms. The desktop application supports offline work on Windows and Mac. The API reference describes importing Comapping, MindManager, FreeMind and OPML files, and exporting maps to HTML, RTF, MPX, CSV and OPML. The FAQ says map changes are saved to the server, backups are made hourly and kept for two months, and user information is not shared with third parties. Comapping became free to use on November 1, 2025, though its pricing page says the service might be retired after one year. The site also states that Comapping is built on Adobe Flash Player, which reached end of life on December 31, 2020.
ideaBraid
ideaBraid is a desktop mind-mapping app that turns ideas into plans, combining a free-form canvas with seven layout modes such as org chart, timeline, fishbone, radial, and freehand. Map nodes can become tasks, with Board, Gantt, and Dashboard views for dates, assignees, and dependencies. AI commands can break down tasks, expand nodes, summarize branches, or follow freeform instructions. Users can connect an Anthropic or OpenAI API key or use a local Ollama model. Maps are saved as.mind files on the user's device; the maker describes this format as an open zip archive. The app imports Markdown, OPML, XMind, and FreeMind, and exports Markdown, OPML, ICS, CSV, SVG, PNG, and PDF. A browser Reader opens.mind files without installation or uploading them. The Reader is free, while the Editor License is a one-time 59.00 USD purchase and includes one year of updates. Optional updates renewal costs $39 a year. The app runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, with offline mode and presentation mode.
