In their own words
Comet
Comet is Perplexity’s AI browser, with an assistant built into browsing. The assistant can answer questions about open tabs, search the web and interact with websites on the user’s behalf. Examples include summarizing or explaining content, comparing tabs, drafting emails, scheduling meetings and making purchases. Perplexity is the default search engine, and Comet uses Chromium. It is free to download at free for Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. Comet supports most Chrome extensions, though users must install and configure them again because extension data does not transfer from Chrome. The browser stores URLs, searches, cookies, open tabs and site permissions locally. Website credentials are kept in the device’s secure vault, not on Perplexity’s servers. Privacy settings allow deletion of browsing and search history, cookies and cached data. However, some queries may involve sending page context, including text or email, to Perplexity’s servers. Email or schedule tasks may require opting in to Perplexity Connector access; those permissions can later be changed or revoked. Comet says users can stop the agent and should review actions before confirming them.
Yad
Yad turns plain-language instructions into actions in your own logged-in browser. It can click, type, navigate websites, fill forms, and handle research tasks, with human approval steps and scheduled tasks. The extension works in Chrome and Brave alongside a free companion app that currently runs only on Windows. You can bring an AI provider key or use a local model; listed options include Groq, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, and custom endpoints. Yad stores selectors, past runs, and learned fixes on your device for reuse, and the companion exposes a local API accepting goals at POST localhost:3747/goal. The maker says passwords, card numbers, and sensitive page fields are masked before content reaches an AI; local-model use keeps page content on the computer. The companion encrypts the AI key with Windows DPAPI, while the extension stores only the encrypted blob. Spending caps and one-click stopping are available, and payment or checkout pages are blocked from autonomous action. Hosted team setups require contacting Yad and cannot use personal logged-in sessions.
