In their own words
Complete Ear Trainer
Complete Ear Trainer is an app for practicing relative pitch, aural skills, and music theory for activities such as improvisation, composition, singing, and playing in a band. Its material spans 11 drill types, including 24 intervals, 36 chord types, inversions, 28 scale types, melodic dictations, and chord progressions. Classic mode has 150+ progressive drills across four levels and 28 chapters; Easy mode has 50+ drills across 12 chapters and is designed for beginners. Chapters include theory cards, and the maker says staff-reading knowledge is not required. Users can create and save custom drills or training programs for friends and students; teachers can add weekly drills and view scores on private leaderboards. Audio includes five octaves of recorded grand piano and seven additional recorded sound banks. The app also has achievements, global leaderboards, and chapter progression. Mobile downloads are listed for several app stores; desktop and browser use is included in Complete Music Trainer. Free access covers the first chapter of each mode. The full version costs $6.99, paid once, with price variation possible by country, taxes, and store.
Minuet
Minuet is a free music education application for ear training, with exercises for intervals, chords, scales, and rhythm patterns, including rests. It helps users identify notes through keyboard and staff feedback. Sing intervals and scales to receive live pitch and timing feedback, or clap written rhythms and see where beats land. Exercise controls let users adjust tempo, instruments, test length, and microphone feedback. Minuet is available for Linux, Windows, and macOS, and is licensed under GPL-2.0+. Linux installation options include AppStream stores, distribution package managers, and Flathub. KDE also provides nightly builds for testing on Flatpak, Windows, and macOS. The Minuet page links to a handbook, KDE forum, kde-edu mailing list, and #kde-edu on Libera.chat. KDE's software privacy policy says data is generally not transferred from a device except after an explicit user action; any telemetry, where present, is opt-in and disabled by default.
