Overview

Snow jobs involve more than dispatch: operators also need to document events, estimate materials, and bill according to the work or contract. CrewNest brings those tasks together with broader field-service workflows such as customer management, scheduling, estimates, and invoicing. It describes itself as an early-stage product, so businesses that prioritize a mature platform may prefer to compare alternatives before committing.

CrewNest supports Android, iOS, and web. Its phone experience is a Progressive Web App that works on iPhone and Android without an app-store download. The company is headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. For a broader category comparison, see Snow Removal Software.

Key features

Service records and weather context

Snow event logs capture timestamps, accumulation totals, and service notes, while weather data and accumulation notes can be attached to jobs. Keeping those details alongside the job gives contractors a more useful service history than an invoice alone, particularly when they need to account for what happened at a property during an event.

Materials, routes, and billing

Salt and deicer calculators estimate material needs using surface area and conditions, helping operators plan treatments rather than rely solely on rough estimates. Map-based dispatch assigns crews to routes and zones. Snow billing can be set per push, per visit, per inch, or as a seasonal flat rate, so the system accommodates several common charging approaches.

Seasonal contracts can use fixed monthly or per-event pricing, with invoices generated from contract terms after events. That links billing to the agreed arrangement, though businesses whose pricing does not fit those models may find the options less useful.

General field-service workflow

The free plan includes customer management, job scheduling, basic invoicing, and offline mode. Pro adds a customer booking portal, route optimization, and advanced analytics, alongside unlimited estimates, invoices, satellite measurements, SMS in the US and Canada, and team members. The paid tier therefore does more than remove quotas: it adds tools for coordinating a larger operation and accepting customer bookings.

Security and service providers

CrewNest says it uses HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, Clerk authentication, role-based access controls, and regular security audits. Its privacy policy identifies Stripe for payment processing, Twilio for SMS, Google Maps for satellite imagery and geocoding, Clerk for authentication, Resend for transactional email, and Turso for database hosting. Support is available through support@crewnest.app and support documentation.

Pricing

Free Forever — 0.00 USD per month. This plan provides one user, up to three estimates and ten satellite measurements per month, and 50 SMS messages per month, plus customer management, job scheduling, basic invoicing, and offline mode. It suits a solo operator testing a basic workflow, but the estimate and messaging ceilings can constrain even modest recurring work.

Pro Plan — 29.99 USD per month. Pro removes the estimate and satellite-measurement limits, includes unlimited invoices and team members, and adds a customer booking portal, route optimization, advanced analytics, and unlimited SMS in the US and Canada. It is the more suitable option once multiple people need access or the free monthly caps interrupt routine operations.

CrewNest offers a 14-day trial. The paid price is stated as a monthly term; no annual option or renewal conditions are included in the plan terms. The free plan remains free, but its one-user limit and monthly quotas are central trade-offs rather than incidental restrictions.

Platforms

CrewNest runs on Android, iOS, and the web. Its Progressive Web App approach avoids an app-store download for iPhone and Android use, while the web option gives office staff another way to work with the system.

Who it's for

CrewNest is best suited to snow-removal businesses that want event documentation, route assignment, material estimates, and flexible snow billing alongside general customer and job management. Solo operators can begin on the free plan if three estimates, ten satellite measurements, and 50 SMS messages per month are enough. Teams that need multiple users, higher volume, or route optimization should budget for Pro.

It is a weaker fit for buyers who need a mature product, or for contractors whose snow workflow does not match its per-push, per-visit, per-inch, or seasonal billing options. Its wider field-service scope also makes it less specialized than a tool chosen solely for snow operations may be.

Pros and cons

Snow-specific records and billing: timestamped event logs, weather context, and several charging methods keep operational documentation connected to billing.
Useful material and dispatch tools: surface-and-condition estimates and map-based route and zone assignments address practical snow-work coordination.
Accessible free entry point: a solo user gets customer management, scheduling, basic invoicing, and offline mode without a monthly charge.
Restrictive free quotas: three estimates, ten satellite measurements, and 50 SMS messages per month can push an active operator toward Pro.
Early-stage positioning: buyers seeking an established field-service platform may be more comfortable comparing other options.

Alternatives

Lawn Snow App is worth considering for operators drawn to a free plan with a different cost structure: its Starter plan has no monthly software fee but charges a $2.90 internal LSA cost per paid service stop when paid or marked paid.

Snow Removal CRM by ServeHub may suit teams that value a free plan with unlimited team members, estimates, contracts, jobs, invoices, and one-tap card payments; its free plan is priced in CAD, and its Plus plan starts at 20.00 CAD per month.

Autopilot is a paid alternative with a 49.00 USD per month Run plan that includes one user, scheduling, jobs and dispatch, estimates with online approval, and invoicing.

Plowdesk offers a free Operator plan with unlimited users and customers, up to three storm routes, manual customer notifications, and Venmo payment tracking, making it a candidate for teams whose needs fit those limits.

Icey has a free plan with up to 15 active sites and five operator seats, plus unlimited admin, office users, and clients; it may fit businesses that need those site and role allowances.

FieldBased is a paid alternative whose Starter plan costs 29.00 USD per month and includes one user, 1,000 emails per month, and a 1% card fee.

SaberTask SnowManager starts at 99.00 USD per month for up to five vehicles, basic route planning, weather alerts, and email support; it may suit operators who specifically want those capabilities and can accommodate the higher entry price.

Plow360 is another paid option, with a 20.00 USD per month Solo plan for one user and 25 customer sites, plus job tracking with real-time weather data, simple invoices, and reporting.

Verdict

CrewNest is a strong shortlist choice for snow contractors who want event records, material estimates, dispatch, and contract-linked billing in one field-service system. Its free plan gives a solo operator a genuine starting point, and Pro at 29.99 USD per month removes the main usage and team constraints. Look elsewhere if your business depends on a more established platform or needs a snow workflow outside CrewNest's billing models.
