In their own words
CrystalDiskMark
CrystalDiskMark is Windows software for benchmarking disk and storage performance. It measures sequential and random read, write and mixed workloads, with Peak, Real World and Demo measurement modes. Users can create custom test profiles, and results can be exported as UTF-16LE text with a BOM, PNG, JPEG or BMP. The download page lists Standard, Aoi and Shizuku editions; Standard is available as an installer, ZIP or source code. Listed system support spans Windows XP through Windows 11 and Windows Server 2003 through 2025, across x86, x64 and ARM64. However, the installer and x64 version do not support XP or Server 2003. The maker warns that benchmarking may shorten SSD or USB memory life and that results cannot be compared across different major versions. Results may also vary with test file size and position, fragmentation, storage controller, CPU speed and, for some SSDs, test data pattern. The free desktop edition costs nothing. A separate Microsoft Store edition costs 9.99 USD once.
Storage Benchmark Kit
Storage Benchmark Kit (SBK) is a Java framework for measuring storage-system throughput and latency with a shared workload engine. Its drivers cover object stores, message systems, databases, file systems, caches, and local queues. The harness controls concurrency, duration, rate, payloads, timestamps, and reporting. Results can be sent to the console, CSV, a local web console, Prometheus, or gRPC. PrometheusLogger exposes metrics, and SBK Dashboard supports Grafana dashboards and persistent time-series history. For distributed runs, SBK-GEM copies and launches SBK on remote hosts over SSH and aggregates measurements through an embedded SBM instance. YAML tools load arguments for single-node and distributed runs. SBK requires JDK 25; its wrapper can download a pinned OpenJDK 25 release and check its SHA-256 checksum. Automatic JDK installation supports Linux and macOS on x64 and AArch64, and Windows on x64. The Apache License 2.0 project is free. Its Local Web Console uses plain HTTP without authentication or TLS, so the project advises limiting exposure to a trusted benchmark network or SSH tunnel.
