In their own words
Datawrapper
Datawrapper is a web app for creating and publishing charts, maps and tables. Its feature overview lists 25 interactive, responsive and accessible visualisation types, including more than 20 chart types. Map options include symbol, choropleth and locator maps, as well as more than 4,000 basemaps and cartograms. Tables can include images, heatmaps, miniature charts, search, pagination and sorting. Users can embed visualisations on websites and export PNG, PDF or SVG files depending on plan. A PowerPoint add-in supports creating, editing, embedding and updating visualisations in presentations, while the REST API can create and edit charts and support integrations. Datawrapper says embeds have no trackers, cookies or third-party scripts and meet GDPR and CCPA requirements. It also says the service is hosted in Frankfurt and Stockholm within the EEA and is ISO 27001 certified. A free plan allows unlimited publishing and PNG downloads, but retains Datawrapper attribution. Pro costs $21 per user/month, excluding VAT, and removes attribution. The maker is based in Berlin and was founded in 2012.
Mapji
Mapji is a free, browser-based no-code tool for building and publishing interactive maps. It offers 10 map types, including heatmaps, choropleths, store locators, crowdsourced maps, and story maps. Without writing code, users can draw markers, lines, polygons, and routes, then customize map themes. Imports support CSV, Excel, GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, and GPX files; Google Sheets can serve as a read-only live source that checks for changes roughly every five minutes. Draw and Compare maps can place WMS, WMTS, ArcGIS, TileJSON, or PMTiles layers beneath the map data. Maps appear at a Mapji URL and can be embedded with an iframe or published on a custom domain. The Free plan costs nothing and includes map building, data imports, a Google Sheet connection, and publication to a Mapji subdomain. Each data source is limited to 10,000 features and imports to 25 MB, with up to five isochrone origins. Mapji does not geocode addresses, so imported points need latitude and longitude. Published maps are accessible to anyone with the URL, with no private or password-protected mode.
