In their own words
dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL
dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL is an IDE for PostgreSQL development, management, data analysis, and reporting. Its SQL editor provides context-aware completion, object suggestions, and instant syntax validation. The Data Editor supports viewing, editing, sorting, grouping, and filtering PostgreSQL data. Schema Compare identifies differences and can synchronize databases; Data Compare compares and synchronizes table data. Import and export formats include CSV, SQL, XLSX, JSON, ODBC, and Google Sheets. Command-line workflows cover schema and data comparison, import and export, and data generation. Listed database support includes PostgreSQL, Supabase, Heroku, Amazon RDS, Azure PostgreSQL, and TimescaleDB, among others. Express is free; Standard is $89.95 a year and Professional is $139.95 a year. The documented system requirements specify Microsoft Windows and.NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher; Devart describes running the app on macOS or Linux using CrossOver. The AI Assistant requires its own license or 14-day trial, separate from the Studio license. The editions comparison lists SSH and SSL connection support for Professional, Standard, and Express.
sqldef
sqldef is a free command-line tool for managing relational database migrations with SQL DDLs. Users maintain a SQL file describing the desired schema; sqldef compares it with the current database schema to generate and apply changes. It lists support for MySQL, MariaDB, TiDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and SQLite3. The workflow can export the current schema and use a dry run to preview migrations before execution. It can also compare two SQL files without a database connection, for schema validation, CI/CD, and migration script generation. Repeated runs are safe: when the database matches the desired schema, another run shows no changes. Rename annotations are documented for tables, columns, indexes, and ENUM values. Each database tool is distributed as a single binary without dependencies. Linux, macOS, Windows, and self-hosted availability are listed. Linux binaries and Docker images are available, but Debian packages are not; a Homebrew tap is listed for four database tools. Source files use the MIT License, while the parser uses Apache License 2.0.
