Overview

Definely brings contract navigation, proofreading, change analysis, natural-language analysis, and precedent search into one suite. The combination is useful when a legal team wants to handle several recurring review tasks within its document workflow rather than switch between separate tools.

Workflow integrations include Microsoft Word, iManage, NetDocuments, and SharePoint. The Trust Centre lists ISO/IEC 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR, ISO/IEC 42001:2023, and Cyber Essentials among its compliance items. Definely also reports that its 2026 penetration test found no critical, high, or medium-severity vulnerabilities. These credentials are relevant for sensitive legal work, though each organization must assess them against its own security requirements.

Key features

Navigate and check contract language

Read surfaces defined terms and cross-references and lets users edit them without leaving the clause in progress. Its Definitions Report identifies defined, undefined, and unused terms across a contract, helping reviewers spot terminology problems without relying only on a clause-by-clause pass.

Proof automates checks for incomplete information, inconsistent formatting, and spacing issues. That makes it a practical aid for document cleanup, but it is not a substitute for legal review of the substance of a contract.

Trace changes and analyze agreements

Cascade uses AI-powered impact analysis to show clauses, definitions, and references that may be affected by a contract change. This can help reviewers trace knock-on effects, while the phrasing “may be affected” makes it important to verify the relevant provisions rather than treat the result as exhaustive.

Enhance accepts natural-language questions and cites clauses and definitions in its responses, giving users a route into contract analysis that does not depend on manually locating every passage first.

Reuse precedent

Vault connects to a document management system so teams can search for and reuse relevant precedent clauses and provisions. This is most useful where a team already maintains a document repository; the integrations with iManage, NetDocuments, and SharePoint support that workflow.

The suite also supports clause comparison and redline suggestions, and works with Microsoft Word and PDF files. Draft and Proof currently work in English and Swedish; Definely does not purport to support documents drafted in other languages, a significant constraint for multilingual practices.

Pricing

Definely uses paid, custom pricing. There is no published price for its products, which can be trialled or purchased through an account; enterprise plans and customised pilots are available. That model may suit organizations wanting a tailored deployment, but buyers cannot compare a standard per-seat cost before speaking with the company.

A product page offers Mac users a free 14-day trial. It is a time-limited way to assess the product, not an ongoing free plan. Product downloads include a support hub with training videos, guides, and reference sheets; pilots may include tailored onboarding and live training. Enterprise customers can receive dedicated support to encourage adoption.

Platforms

Definely supports macOS, Windows, and the web. Microsoft Word is central to its stated contract workflow, with integrations also shown for iManage, NetDocuments, and SharePoint.

Who it's for

Definely is aimed at law firms and in-house legal teams that handle complex contracts and want help with navigation, proofreading, change analysis, and precedent reuse. The founders say they built it after encountering difficulties navigating complex contracts, including accessibility needs related to visual impairment. That motivation may resonate with teams seeking a more navigable way to work through dense documents, though it does not establish how well the tools meet any particular accessibility requirement.

Named customers include Dentons, A&O Shearman, DLA Piper, KPMG, Samsung, and BT Group. Teams drafting or reviewing in languages beyond English and Swedish should look elsewhere for Draft and Proof.

Pros and cons

Pros: Read works with terms and cross-references in context, while its report covers defined, undefined, and unused terms.
Pros: Cascade, Enhance, Proof, and Vault address distinct review and drafting tasks within the same suite.
Pros: Integrations with Word and major document management systems support established legal workflows.
Cons: Draft and Proof support only English and Swedish, limiting use for teams handling other languages.
Cons: Custom pricing makes costs harder to compare before an account conversation.
Cons: The Mac free trial lasts 14 days, with no free plan described for ongoing use.

Alternatives

AI Contract Review Software is a useful starting point for comparing products across the category.

Legartis may suit teams that want a free entry point with two NDA reviews per month and stated German, English, and French support.
Zuva is a better fit for API-oriented evaluation, with a free plan capped at 25 files, classifications, language requests, and extractions per day.
LeCHECK is another paid option with a free trial.
ThoughtRiver may appeal to individuals looking for a published monthly Starter plan and web or extension access.
Robin AI is another paid option with a free plan and trial.
Spellbook is an alternative for teams seeking a Word add-in with custom pricing based on team size.
LegalSifter may suit organizations that prefer published annual contract-based pricing, including a plan with unlimited seats and 50 contracts included.

Verdict

Choose Definely if your legal team works primarily in English or Swedish, relies on complex Word contracts, and values connected tools for navigation, review, and precedent search. Its breadth and document-system integrations are the main reasons to shortlist it. Look elsewhere if you need Draft or Proof for other languages, an ongoing free plan, or a clearly published price before engaging a vendor.
