Overview

Dictanote brings speech-to-text into a notebook app, with a separate tool for turning recordings into edited text. It is best for people who want to dictate and organize notes in a supported browser rather than use a standalone transcription tool. The combination is useful, but dictation requires internet access and browser compatibility narrows the choice.

Key features

Dictanote supports speech recognition in more than 50 languages and 80+ dialects, along with custom vocabulary and voice commands. That makes it a more adaptable option for spoken notes that include specialized terms or need hands-free entry. It cannot dictate offline, even though users can access and edit saved notes without a connection.

Notebooks can hold checklists, tables and links, with search, favorites and pinned notes for finding and keeping important material close. Those tools suit notes that need structure, not just raw transcription. The free plan, however, restricts users to 50 notes in one notebook, which may be too tight for a growing archive.

AudioScribe transcribes voice notes and uses ChatGPT to rewrite them into clearer text. Custom styles and translation make it useful for adapting rough recordings, and Zapier or webhook integrations can connect it with other apps. This is a distinct editing workflow, rather than a substitute for live dictation.

Dictanote says browser speech recognition handles dictation without the company receiving or storing audio. Notes are stored on its servers for syncing, and synced content is replicated in the United States. Its privacy policy describes commercially reasonable security safeguards. That distinction matters to users choosing between cloud-synced notes and keeping content entirely local.

Pricing

The free plan costs $0 forever and includes up to 50 notes in one notebook, 60 minutes of dictation per day and support for 50+ languages. The daily quota and 20-second silence timeout, after which the microphone turns off, make it suitable for occasional notes but less convenient for long or frequent dictation.

Pro monthly costs $8.00 per month, billed monthly, and can be canceled anytime. It includes unlimited notes, notebooks and dictation, sharing with up to 10 people, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. This is the flexible option for regular users who want to avoid the free plan's caps.

Pro yearly costs $60.00 per year, billed yearly, with the same unlimited notes, notebooks and dictation and sharing with up to 10 people. It includes a 30-day money-back guarantee and saves $36 compared with monthly billing, making it the better fit for someone ready to commit for a year. A Pro plan is also shown at $8.00 per month, billed yearly, with 1 GB cloud storage; readers should distinguish that offer from the Pro yearly plan's stated $60 annual price.

There is no free trial. The free plan is the way to try the product, but its dictation quota and small notebook allowance are meaningful limits.

Platforms

Dictanote supports Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iPhone, Chrome, Edge and Safari, and can be installed as a standalone app from a browser on desktop and Android or added to the iPhone and iPad home screen. Dictation works in Chrome and Edge on Windows, Mac and Linux, Chrome on Android, and Safari 26 or later on Apple devices. It does not work in Firefox or Brave. Check both device and browser before relying on voice entry; offline note editing does not remove the online requirement for dictation.

Who it's for

Dictanote suits individuals who want spoken and typed notes in one organized workspace, particularly those who value language coverage, voice commands or AudioScribe's rewriting and translation. The free tier can serve light use, while unlimited dictation and notebooks make Pro more appropriate for sustained use. It is a poor fit for anyone who needs offline dictation, uses Firefox or Brave, or wants to keep synced notes off remote servers.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 50 languages and 80+ dialects, custom vocabulary and voice commands give dictation useful flexibility.
Pros: Notebooks, search, favorites and pinned notes make it possible to manage material beyond a transcript list.
Pros: AudioScribe adds transcription cleanup, custom styles, translation and Zapier or webhook connections.
Cons: Dictation needs an internet connection, and Firefox and Brave are unsupported.
Cons: Free users face a 60-minute daily limit, a 20-second silence cutoff, and a 50-note single-notebook cap.
Cons: Notes are stored on servers for syncing, with synced content replicated in the United States.

Alternatives

For a dedicated dictation comparison, browse Dictation software; for a broader set of note workspaces, see Note-taking apps.

Wispr Flow is worth considering if you prefer voice typing across desktop and mobile with weekly word limits rather than Dictanote's notebook-centered workflow. Superwhisper is another freemium option, with a free trial and voice-to-text in any app. WakaScribe may suit users who want a free plan with unlimited words and no time limit. Voice In offers a free 60-minute daily allowance and dictation in 50+ languages, with support for popular sites and punctuation commands. Philips SpeechLive is a paid alternative with a free trial and team plans that include user seats, storage and transcription hours. Braina has a free option and a yearly Pro plan for one Windows PC. Aqua Voice offers a 1,000-word Starter tier and a Pro plan at $8.00 per month billed annually. Google Voice Access is a free Android option.

Verdict

Choose Dictanote if you want a structured note workspace that combines multilingual voice typing with tools for refining recordings. Its strongest reason to choose is that blend of dictation, organization and AudioScribe. Look elsewhere if you need offline dictation, an unsupported browser, or a free plan without a daily quota and small notebook cap.
