In their own words
DidTheyReadIt
DidTheyReadIt tracks sent email and alerts the sender when a recipient opens a tracked message. Receipts can show the opening time, how long the message remained open, and an approximate location based on the reader’s IP address. To set up tracking, users add.DidTheyReadIt.com to the recipient address; instructions cover Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Mac users, and other email clients. An optional Auto-Tracker is described as a Windows beta with email-program and browser plugins. A paid PDF add-on creates trackable PDF copies and reports when and where they are opened. For a message sent to multiple recipients, the service tracks the message rather than each person, so it cannot name the opener; location may offer a clue. The free subscription costs nothing, though trial duration and message limits may vary. The privacy policy says the service does not save or copy messages sent through its online services.
Pointofmail
Pointofmail tracks sent email and offers controls for messages after delivery. Reports can show when messages, links and attachments are opened, with details such as read time, location, duration, forwarding and device; the product advertises more than 20 tracking data points. Its Outbox can recall or edit sent messages and add or remove attachments, even after a message has been read. Tracking events can trigger email, SMS, web or API notifications, though SMS allotments vary by plan. Virtual groups and mail merge support personalized messages to multiple recipients using dynamic parameters and recipient-specific delivery. Reports and graphs can be exported to CSV. The site lists Gmail integrations, Chrome and Firefox browser tools and a Microsoft Outlook add-in, and says the product works with popular webmail and email clients. It is listed for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and web, with API and extension access. The paid service has a seven-day trial limited to 30 emails and requires no credit card. Pricing starts at $13.99/mo (annual). The privacy policy says Gmail conversations and contact lists are not stored, and the support page says customer support is currently available through an email ticket system.
