In their own words
Differino
Differino compares PDF, DOCX, and TXT documents and displays changes side by side. Users can review revisions in visual or text comparison modes. For scanned or image-based PDFs, OCR-assisted extraction and rendered page differences help surface changes. Each file can be up to 45 MB. The free plan includes one comparison, 24-hour share links, watermarked PDF exports, and 14-day retention for uploads and results. One-time credit packs provide additional comparisons with no-expiry credits and watermark-free exports; Pro items are retained for 365 days. The service also offers a REST API and an MCP server for Claude, Cursor, and other compatible clients. Differino states that data in transit is encrypted with TLS 1.3 and stored data with AES-256. It describes use cases including contract review for legal and business teams, and report review for finance, audit, and operations. The finance page says it focuses on document comparison rather than native spreadsheet diffing.
SmarterDiff
SmarterDiff is a free browser-based tool for comparing text, Word documents, PDFs, spreadsheets, folders, and images. Text comparisons can show line, word, or character differences, with options to ignore case and whitespace. Excel and CSV comparisons check cell values and formulas, while image comparisons use pixel differences with overlay, side-by-side, and slider views. It can compare finalized.docx text, but not Word tracked-change markup; scanned PDFs without embedded text cannot be compared as text. SmarterDiff says comparisons run in the browser and files or results are not sent to its servers or external services. Comparisons can work offline after the first page load while browser libraries remain cached. File size depends on available computer memory and browser limits. It is a manual, one-off tool without workflow automation or integrations. The Free plan costs nothing, is ad-supported, requires no account, and has no artificial limits.
