In their own words
Disk SpeedUp
Disk SpeedUp is a Windows utility for analyzing and defragmenting drives, as well as optimizing individual files and folders. Its interactive drive map displays fragmentation results. Defragmentation modes can optimize placement for less frequently accessed files or prioritize frequently used ones. Scheduling lets users choose an action, frequency, time, and drives. It can also defragment system files at boot, including page files, registry hives, and hiberfil.sys. The utility offers SSD optimization settings, but its knowledge base says defragmenting SSDs is not recommended because it may reduce their lifespan. Supported file systems are FAT 16/32 and NTFS. Users can exclude files and folders, enable Disk Defrag in the Windows Explorer context menu through Glary Utilities settings, and set the computer to shut down after defragmentation. Glarysoft says the product is designed to avoid damage to drives or stored data and typically responds to technical questions and bug reports within one or two business days. It is listed as freeware at free, with no free trial. The download page lists version 6.0.1.17.
FreeDOS Defrag
FreeDOS Defrag, or DEFRAG, is a free, open-source DOS utility that rearranges file fragments to improve loading times from a specified drive. It offers a menu interface and a command-line mode selected with /C. Full optimization with /F places files at the beginning of the disk without gaps, while /U unfragments files but may leave gaps. The /S option sorts files by name, extension, date and time, or size, with descending order available. Other options support quick defragmentation, rebooting after optimization, and exiting when work finishes. Its help recommends occasional use or running it after installing larger programs or creating many small files. Documented exit codes cover insufficient disk space, read, write, FAT-allocation, and memory errors. DEFRAG runs in the FreeDOS environment, whose 1.4 distribution includes LiveCD, USB, LegacyCD, and floppy editions.
