In their own words
Docassemble
Docassemble is a free, open-source platform for guided interviews and document assembly. An interview can produce downloadable or emailed PDF, RTF or DOCX files, submit applications, interact with APIs or provide information. Authors build interviews with YAML, Markdown and Python logic, and can make questions depend on what information is still needed. Templates can use DOCX or PDF files, with a Word add-in for DOCX workflows. Other listed capabilities include touchscreen signatures, chat, screen sharing, remote screen control, AI, SMS, email, fax, OCR, multilingual interviews and multiuser applications. Developers can extend interviews with Python and connect third-party applications through the API. Deployment options include Docker, Docker Compose, Helm and installation without Docker; the maker recommends Docker. The software has no usage fees, but an internet-hosted server typically costs $10–$40 per month or more. Interview answers are encrypted in the SQL database unless multi_user is True; uploaded and assembled documents are not encrypted.
Dokuily
Dokuily is a web workspace for preparing and managing legal and business documents from prompts, official forms, or uploaded files. It can reuse saved details, flag missing information, collect signatures, and track delivery and deadlines, with automated follow-ups. Users can generate, autofill, edit, and save drafts for free, including later changes and downloads through saved account access. Blank official government forms are always free. Core tools work without an account; an email address is needed only for email delivery. Dokuily says it does not sell user data. It states that it is not a law firm and does not provide legal, tax, or financial advice. Automated jurisdiction checks apply to a small set of document types and certain states, and do not replace review of current local law. The free plan includes the first three paid-eligible completions during launch; additional premium completions cost $7.99 each. Dokuily Pro costs $19.00 per month and includes 10 completed document downloads monthly; unused completions do not roll over.
