In their own words
Docmosis
Docmosis generates documents from Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer templates, producing PDF, DOCX, ODT, or TXT files. Templates can combine placeholders, text, images, tables, conditional content, calculations, repeating data, formatting, page numbering, and tables of contents. Its API-first engine connects to custom applications and third-party platforms, with official integrations for Java, C#/.NET, PHP, Python, Ruby, Bubble, Appian, Mendix, Zapier, and OutSystems. Buyers can use the AWS-hosted Cloud service, the self-hosted Tornado engine for Linux, Windows, or Docker, or Docmosis-Java, a library for Java applications. Cloud hosting spans multiple geographic regions and scales under load. Cloud input and generated documents are deleted after processing; templates are encrypted at rest and HTTPS is enforced. Cloud plans start at $49 a month, billed monthly, and a 30-day trial is available without a credit card. Self-hosted options require customers to install, configure, run, and manually update the software. Docmosis says it achieved SOC 2 Type II in 2025 and supports the Australian Privacy Act, GDPR, and data-processing agreements.
WeasyPrint
WeasyPrint is free, open-source software for web developers who create PDFs from HTML. Its Python library can turn HTML objects into PDF files with `HTML.write_pdf()`, while the command-line interface offers PDF variants including PDF/A, PDF/UA, and PDF/X. Inputs include HTML, CSS, local files, URLs, file objects, HTML strings, raster images, and SVG. Sample output types include reports, invoices, tickets, books, letters, and posters. WeasyPrint supports Linux, macOS, Windows, and self-hosted deployment; its documentation also describes community-maintained Docker images and an AWS Lambda layer. It can create fillable forms and provides an API. The default HTTP client does not handle cookies or authentication, although a custom URL fetcher can be used. The documentation cautions that untrusted HTML or CSS can create security problems. Version 70.0 requires Python 3.10 or later and Pango 1.44 or later, among other dependencies. The software was created and developed by Kozea; CourtBouillon provides professional support and maintenance.
