Overview

Podhoc converts videos, articles, PDFs, URLs and text into audio episodes, with nine built-in styles such as Deep Dive, Critique, Didactic, Debate and the Feynman Technique. Episodes can be configured from five minutes to two hours, so the format can suit a short recap or a longer treatment. It is best understood as a way to listen to source material, not as a general-purpose podcast player.

Key features

Bring in source material

Free supports YouTube URLs, web articles, Wikipedia and pasted text, but limits each podcast to one source. Creator allows two sources and adds PDF, DOCX, DOC and TXT uploads; Pro raises the cap to 50. That makes Creator a reasonable step up for combining a couple of readings, while Pro is the plan aimed at substantial source bundles. Podhoc extracts YouTube transcripts, and Chrome and Firefox extensions can save webpage links for later. The Chrome extension is desktop-only; Firefox requires desktop Firefox 142 or later, and Safari support is marked as coming soon.

Shape the listening experience

The nine styles offer different approaches to the same material, from a critique to a Feynman-style explanation. Creator and Pro support 73 output languages, compared with two on Free. Creator includes two voices and read-along; Pro adds a third voice and source weighting, which helps when some sources should carry more weight than others. Podhoc also says episodes can sync to Garmin and Apple Watch for listening away from a phone.

API and privacy

The Pro REST API is useful for developers connecting Podhoc to learning or content systems, but it accepts publicly accessible URLs only: it cannot take file uploads or raw text. Uploaded source files remain private, while generated episodes are public in Discover by default; Creator and Pro can disable automatic publishing. The maker says user data is hosted in Frankfurt in the EU, is not used to train external AI models, and is handled under EU privacy regulations.

Pricing

Free is free and includes 50 welcome credits, one source per podcast, two languages and access to pasted text or supported URLs. Episodes are public by default. This is enough to try the basic conversion workflow, but the single-source cap and limited languages make it a constrained ongoing option.

Creator monthly costs 20.99 EUR per month; Creator yearly costs 230.99 EUR per year. Both include 1,000 credits per month or 12,000 per year respectively, up to two sources per podcast, 73 languages, file uploads, two voices and read-along. Creator fits regular individual use that needs uploads or broader language choice, but the two-source ceiling rules it out for larger research bundles.

Pro monthly costs 72.99 EUR per month; Pro yearly costs 802.99 EUR per year. Monthly Pro includes 3,500 credits per month and yearly Pro 42,000 credits per year; both allow up to 50 sources per podcast and include 73 languages, three voices, source weighting, priority processing, credit rollover and the REST API. It is the relevant tier for high-volume synthesis or API integration, but its price is difficult to justify for occasional listening.

The one-time Credit pack costs 44.99 EUR and provides 2,000 credits, described as 20 listed 30-minute podcasts. Credits never expire, so it suits intermittent use better than a subscription, though it does not replace plan features such as file uploads or API access. Subscriptions can be upgraded, downgraded or canceled anytime.

Platforms

Podhoc is available on the web, Android and iOS, with Chrome and Firefox extensions for desktop browsing. Native mobile apps broaden its usefulness for listening away from a computer, and watch syncing is intended for phone-free listening. Safari extension support is coming soon rather than currently available.

Who it's for

Students, researchers and knowledge workers who want to turn existing reading or video into audio are the clearest fit. Creator suits listeners who need uploads, more languages or two-source episodes; Pro makes sense for larger source sets, priority processing or API integration. If the need is simply to listen to podcasts rather than generate them from source material, Podhoc is the wrong kind of product.

Pros and cons

Broad source coverage: YouTube, articles, Wikipedia, text and paid-plan document uploads support varied research and learning workflows.
Useful format and length choices: Nine styles and episodes up to 120 minutes can accommodate both concise and extended listening.
Clear path to scale: Source limits rise from one on Free to 50 on Pro, with source weighting and API access at the top tier.
Free is tightly limited: Two languages, one source and public-by-default episodes make it more suitable for evaluation than regular private use.
API input is narrow: Pro integration is URL-only, so developers cannot send files or raw text through the API.
Top-tier cost is substantial: Pro is hard to justify unless its large source allowance, credits or integration features are needed.

Verdict

Podhoc is a good choice for learners and researchers who want configurable audio from varied source material, especially if Creator’s uploads and language options are enough. Its strongest reason to choose it is the combination of source flexibility, episode styles and mobile listening. Look elsewhere if you need a generous free tier, low-cost access to large source bundles, or an API that accepts files and text.
