Docutain vs Scanner Pro

Docutain scans paper documents into searchable PDFs or images using automatic capture and OCR text recognition. Its Android and iOS apps provide unlimited scans on the free plan, and a Windows desktop version is also available. Scanning and OCR happen locally on the device. Docutain says it uses encryption and password protection, does not pass personal data to third parties, and is GDPR-compliant. Users can optionally connect cloud providers and choose where documents are stored, or share scans by email, local folders or messenger apps. The Windows version accepts email, folder and scanner inputs. A desktop license covers up to three devices, while the mobile apps can be used on any number of the user's mobile devices. The SDK offers document scanning, barcode scanning and data extraction for Android, iOS or Windows apps. Windows desktop and Premium plans include a 14-day trial that ends without automatic purchase. Listed annual prices start at €2.08/month for Windows; Premium annual costs €4.17/month, and monthly options are also listed.

Scanner Pro turns paper documents, receipts, IDs, business cards, books and photos into digital files on iOS and macOS. Automatic edge detection and perspective correction help capture pages, which can be saved as single- or multi-page PDFs, reordered, merged and exported as PDF, Word, PowerPoint, JPG or TXT. Built-in OCR makes scans searchable and allows recognized text to be selected and copied. Users can crop, clean, annotate and sign documents, and password-protect PDFs. The iOS Translator tool translates scans or PDFs into more than 20 languages on device. Scans can sync and back up through iCloud, or upload automatically to Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, OneNote, iCloud Drive and WebDAV storage. Sharing includes email, printing, fax and AirDrop. A free plan and seven-day trial are listed. Scanner Pro Plus costs $59.99 a year; separate purchases include Fax Pack 1 at $0.99, paid once and Expense Report at $4.99, paid once.
