In their own words
Dogear
Dogear is a speed-reading trainer for iOS that measures comprehension after each passage. It offers word-by-word RSVP and guided highlighting, with adjustable pacing from 100 to 900 words per minute. Its comprehension-safe speed is the fastest pace at which a reader scores at least 80% comprehension. Readers can paste articles, notes, or book excerpts from the clipboard, and Dogear saves their place. Progress tools include a daily-goal ring, a seven-day streak strip, and charts that pair pace with comprehension. Controls cover chunk size, rewind, a scrubber, haptics, text appearance, pausing at punctuation, and pivot guides. On supported iPhones, Apple’s on-device foundation model can create passages and quizzes; devices without Apple Intelligence use built-in passages and quizzes, without transmitting user text. Dogear says it collects no personal data, needs no account, and has no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. It works offline apart from its launch-time settings-file download. The App Store listing requires iOS 26 or later and also lists compatibility with iPadOS 26, macOS 26 on Apple silicon, and visionOS 26. The app is free, with no ads, subscription, or account.
Spreeder
Spreeder combines speed reading, a regular e-reader and learning tools. It uses AI to generate personalized summaries of books and lessons, as well as lessons about topics or trends. Its RSVP speed reader has four modes and 14 tunable settings; the regular reader includes notes, statistics, bookmarks and tagging. Readers can import 52 file and eBook formats, though DRM-protected books may require DRM removal first. A Chrome or Safari extension saves web content to a cloud library and removes menus, ads and clutter. The library supports color-coded tags, progress and goal tracking, and reading sync across devices, with unlimited storage in the offer. That offer also includes 214 premium courses and access for up to five users. Spreeder has a free plan. The order page displays €47.00 as a one-time payment and offers a USD option without showing its price. It runs on web, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and as a browser extension.
