In their own words

E2B

E2B provides isolated Linux machines for AI agent sessions, with infrastructure managed by E2B or deployed in a customer’s cloud. Each session runs in its own Firecracker microVM and kernel, without sharing filesystem or memory with another customer’s sandboxes. An API covers execution, networking, storage, secrets, observability, and lifecycle management. The Code Interpreter SDK runs Python or JavaScript and can return charts, tables, and images; Desktop supplies screen, mouse, keyboard, and live streaming for computer-use agents. Listed integrations include CrewAI, Agno, Mastra, OpenAI Agents SDK, Google ADK, LangChain Deep Agents, and Vercel AI SDK. E2B Cloud is available in US, EU, and APAC regions. Enterprise BYOC can place sandboxes in a customer’s AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure account. The runtime is Apache-2.0 licensed and self-hostable. Hobby is free, with a one-time $100 usage credit, sessions up to one hour, and 20 concurrent sandboxes. Pro costs $150 a month plus usage costs.

Firejail

Firejail is a free, self-hosted Linux sandboxing program for restricting untrusted applications, servers, graphical programs, and login sessions. It uses Linux namespaces and seccomp-bpf so sandboxed processes receive private views of network, process, and mount tables. The software runs on Linux computers with a 3.x kernel or newer. Security controls include protocol filtering, noroot user namespaces, Linux capabilities, D-BUS filtering, and optional AppArmor or SELinux support. Mandatory Access Control can block more than 1,000 desktop applications from passwords, encryption keys, and private data, with more than 1,000 profiles available in /etc/firejail. Firejail can create an isolated TCP/IP stack with routing, firewall, and interfaces, and nettrace can inspect traffic. AppImage packages are supported. Firetools adds a Qt5 graphical launcher, tray integration, editing, management, and statistics; FDNS provides DNS-over-HTTPS through non-logging providers. Running sudo firecfg integrates application menus and file-manager launches. The project targets home users and Linux beginners rather than enterprise customers.
