| Company | E2B says it began as a project in March 2023, founded by Tomas Valenta and Vasek Mlejnsky. | Microsandbox is designed and engineered by Super Rad Company, whose stated purpose is building tools for the agentic future. |
| Isolation | Each sandbox runs in its own Firecracker microVM and kernel, without sharing a filesystem or memory with another customer's sandboxes. | Each sandbox is a microVM with its own Linux kernel, filesystem, and network boundary, rather than a container sharing the host kernel. |
| License | The runtime and published infrastructure are licensed Apache-2.0. | The runtime is open source under the Apache 2.0 license. |
| Self-hosting | E2B Embed and the runtime can be deployed on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or a general Linux machine using Terraform, Docker Compose or Kubernetes. | The runtime can be run on the user's own servers or clusters, and the cloud platform can be deployed in the user's infrastructure. |
| Support | E2B directs security and compliance requests to [email protected]. | The product FAQ directs users with questions to its Discord community. |
| What it does | E2B provides isolated Linux machines for AI agents to execute code, process data, browse and use tools. | Microsandbox is a local-first microVM runtime for running untrusted workloads, including AI agents, user code, plugins, CI jobs, scrapers, and automation. |

In their own words
E2B
E2B provides isolated Linux machines for AI agent sessions, with infrastructure managed by E2B or deployed in a customer’s cloud. Each session runs in its own Firecracker microVM and kernel, without sharing filesystem or memory with another customer’s sandboxes. An API covers execution, networking, storage, secrets, observability, and lifecycle management. The Code Interpreter SDK runs Python or JavaScript and can return charts, tables, and images; Desktop supplies screen, mouse, keyboard, and live streaming for computer-use agents. Listed integrations include CrewAI, Agno, Mastra, OpenAI Agents SDK, Google ADK, LangChain Deep Agents, and Vercel AI SDK. E2B Cloud is available in US, EU, and APAC regions. Enterprise BYOC can place sandboxes in a customer’s AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure account. The runtime is Apache-2.0 licensed and self-hostable. Hobby is free, with a one-time $100 usage credit, sessions up to one hour, and 20 concurrent sandboxes. Pro costs $150 a month plus usage costs.
microsandbox
Microsandbox runs untrusted workloads inside microVMs, each with its own Linux kernel, filesystem, and network boundary rather than sharing the host kernel. It can run AI agents, user code, plugins, CI jobs, scrapers, and automation. The local runtime starts on a user's machine without a daemon, root service, or account; it can also run on personal servers or clusters, and its cloud platform can be deployed in the user's infrastructure. Microsandbox offers SDKs for TypeScript, Rust, Python, Go, and Ruby, plus a CLI and MCP workflows, and accepts OCI images from container registries. By default, sandboxes can reach the public internet, while private, host-local, link-local, and metadata destinations are blocked; egress can be allowlisted or disabled. The runtime is open source under Apache 2.0. The Free plan is $0 per month, while paid plans start at $49 per month. Microsandbox Cloud is in private beta and requires an access request.
