Overview

Tapcheck is an earned-wage-access service for employees whose workplace participates in the program. It is best suited to workers who want some pay between shifts and payday, with transfers recorded through payroll; the employer requirement is a firm limit, not a workaroundable signup step.

After a shift, Tapcheck says up to 70% of net earnings after taxes and deductions may be available. That can help cover a short-term cash need, but it is only a portion of wages, and transfer fees may apply. Payroll logging and itemized paycheck entries make accessed pay easier to account for.

Tapcheck was founded in 2019 and is headquartered in Plano, Texas. For a broader category comparison, see Earned Wage Access Software.

Key features

Multiple payout routes: Employees can transfer funds to a bank account, use a Tapcheck Mastercard, or choose gift cards through Prizeout. The choice offers flexibility, but workers should check whether their preferred transfer has a fee; Tapcheck also provides no-fee options.
Payroll and timekeeping connections: The marketplace includes payroll, HR, timekeeping, and workforce platforms such as ADP, BambooHR, and Ceridian Dayforce. Employers connect payroll and timekeeping systems through a no-code integration, which is a practical advantage for workplaces using a supported platform.
Payroll records: Transfers are sent to payroll systems and appear as itemized paycheck entries. This helps distinguish accessed wages from the remaining paycheck rather than leaving the transaction outside payroll records.
Financial wellness resources: Personalized blogs and videos add educational material alongside wage access, though they do not change the service's eligibility or payout limits.
Security and support: Tapcheck's Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type II and says the company conducts annual third-party audits and penetration testing. It also says employee data is never sold. Employees can contact support in the app or by emailing support@tapcheck.com.

Pricing

Tapcheck presents its plans as free, with employer costs described as zero and employees paying an ATM-like fee for transfers, alongside no-fee options. The key cost question for employees is therefore the chosen payout route, not a monthly subscription price.

Employees — free: Includes access to earned wages after shifts, no-fee options, iOS and Android apps, financial wellness tools, Tapcheck Mastercard options, and security and privacy features. This is the relevant plan for eligible workers; it does not remove the employer-participation requirement or guarantee every transfer is free.
Small Business plan — free: Includes payroll and timeclock integrations, earned-wage-access payouts, payroll-based recovery, off-cycle disbursements, financial wellness tools, Mastercard options, and security and privacy features. It suits smaller employers seeking those payroll functions without a stated employer charge.
Enterprise plan — free: Includes the Small Business plan's core functions plus custom integrations. It is the better fit for employers needing tailored connections; the listed plan price is still free.

Platforms

Tapcheck supports Android, iOS, and web. Its employee mobile app, instant wage transfer, payroll integration, and timesheet integration make the service relevant to both workers accessing pay and employers connecting payroll operations.

Who it's for

Tapcheck is a sensible option for employees at participating employers who need a portion of earned pay before payday and value several payout routes with payroll-recorded transactions. It is also suited to employers that want payroll and timekeeping connections, payroll-based recovery, and off-cycle disbursements. Workers whose employer has not signed up cannot use the service, and anyone who needs the full paycheck early should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

Meaningful access between paydays: Up to 70% of net earnings after deductions may be available after a shift.
Flexible payouts: Bank transfer, Mastercard, and Prizeout gift cards provide alternatives, with no-fee options among them.
Payroll visibility: Logged transfers and itemized paycheck entries help keep advances accounted for.
Employer-facing integrations: No-code payroll and timekeeping connections and custom integrations on Enterprise support a range of workplace needs.

Cons

Workplace-gated access: Employees are eligible only if their employer has signed up, excluding independent use.
Not the full paycheck: The stated availability is capped at up to 70% of net earnings, not all earned wages.
Transfer costs can vary: Employees may pay ATM-like fees, so the cost depends on the payout route they choose.

Alternatives

Rain is worth comparing if transfer pricing is central: it offers a free standard ACH transfer that typically arrives in 1–2 days, while instant card transfers cost 3.99 USD per once.
Immediate is another free employer option, with no long-term contracts stated for its employer plan.
Instant Financial offers immediate earned-pay access, an earnings-and-spending app, and a Visa debit card; compare it if that card-based setup is a better fit.
Payflow is another earned-wage-access option for Android, iOS, web, and API platforms.
Refyne is another option available on Android, iOS, and web.
EarnIn for Employers is a free employer option that directs employers to schedule a demo.
Clair may suit readers comparing transfer terms: instant bank transfers cost $4.99, while standard transfers take 1–3 business days, subject to eligibility and application review.
Dosh is another wage-access option to compare.

Verdict

Choose Tapcheck if you work for a participating employer and want flexible access to part of your earned wages with transfers recorded through payroll. Its broad payout choices and employer integrations are the strongest reasons to choose it; look elsewhere if your workplace is not enrolled, you need more than the available share of net pay, or transfer fees undermine the benefit.
