In their own words
Earz
Earz teaches ear training, note reading, music theory and music knowledge through online games for different levels and ages. It includes dozens of standard games that teachers can copy and edit, as well as tools to create new activities with their own text, links, images, sound and YouTube videos. A Quiz module supports custom questions in several formats, and an AI assistant can assess open-ended answers; the maker labels that feature beta. Teachers can view student results in an online tracking system. Earz is described as suitable for primary and secondary schools, private music schools, bands and choirs. School subscriptions are priced yearly by participant capacity: plans range from Earz School 20 at €35 a year to Earz School 2500 at €695 a year. Earz Solo is listed at €999 a year for unlimited Android and iOS use. A free plan and a 7-day trial are available. The service runs on web, Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, but requires an internet connection. The maker says personal data is processed under GDPR, sent over SSL and stored encrypted on a central server in Frankfurt, Germany.
Patatap
Patatap is a web and mobile animation-and-sound instrument for making melodies with moving shapes. On a computer, you click the screen and press keyboard keys to play; touch input is also described for creating melodies. Its makers present animations and melodies as parts of one interactive instrument. While playing, you can switch among multiple color palettes and matching soundscapes. The hosted Web plan is free at free. A listed Patatap iPhone and iPad app costs $1.99, paid once, and is described as the official offline port of the website. The App Store lists Mac compatibility requiring macOS 14.2 or later and an Apple M1 chip or later. The site warns about flashing images. The web version was made with Two.js, a two-dimensional drawing API. The App Store says usage data and diagnostics may be collected without being linked to users, and accessibility support has not been indicated.
