In their own words

edX

edX is an online course provider offering courses, certificates, executive education, microcredentials and degrees from edX, member institutions, 2U and other organizations. Learners can audit courses for free, but the audit track limits content, omits graded assignments and certificates, and ends access to materials when the course ends. Verified individual courses start at around $50 and include graded work, a certificate and continued access to lectures, readings and lessons. Multi-course professional certificate programs start at around $500; executive education programs can cost at least $2,500. Courses combine video and text, discussions, and different problems and assessments; many are self-paced, and individual courses generally take two to six weeks. Android and iOS apps support enrollment, most assignments, discussions and offline video downloads, but not timed or proctored exams. Institutional and business offerings include LMS integrations, SSO, grade pass-back, analytics dashboards and administrative tools. edX reports a network of 100 million learners and more than 250 content partners.

OpenClassrooms

OpenClassrooms is an online learning platform offering free courses and career-focused training programs, including programs that lead to recognized credentials. Its catalog lists 600 free, open-access courses and more than 50 training programs. Lessons may include educational text, videos, automatically corrected quizzes, and self-corrected practice; a course typically takes about 5–15 hours, depending on pace. Learners can ask questions in discussion spaces, and premium members can download course videos in high definition for offline viewing. Courses are available online year-round on computers, tablets, and smartphones. Free-access courses require an account and cost nothing. Training paths range from €300 to €500 per month and last 6 to 18 months; monthly subscription pricing varies by program. The service is available on the web and iOS. OpenClassrooms says it is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 and identifies dynamic notifications not being read by screen readers as an accessibility issue.
