In their own words

eFileIL

eFileIL is Illinois’ centralized electronic filing manager, routing documents among filers, clerks, court personnel, and judges. Users submit documents through a certified Electronic Filing Service Provider, which sends them through eFileIL to the relevant court and its case-management system. Attorneys and self-represented people can use an EFSP, but registration is required. Electronic filing is mandatory for civil cases in the Illinois Supreme, Appellate, and Circuit Courts. Coverage includes the Supreme Court, all appellate districts, and 94 trial courts. The web service provides filing-status tracking and eService, which emails documents to other parties and records when recipients receive and open them. Parties may also exchange documents without filing them. eFileIL supports all case types except specified criminal, quasi-criminal, and juvenile categories; those categories allow only subsequent filings, not case initiation. It is described as available 24/7, although maintenance can interrupt access. eFileIL is free, while court fees depend on the local court and EFSP charges vary. Documents have published size limits, and embedded audio, video, security, and encryption are prohibited.
