| Deployment | Egeria can run in a Docker container and the project describes using it standalone or as part of Kubernetes deployments. | The site offers local Docker Compose, Kubernetes deployment with Helm charts, and AWS Marketplace QuickLaunch. |
| Discovery | Metadata discovery includes schema extraction, resource profiling, data class and grain discovery, semantic discovery and classification discovery. | Users can search data and explore tags, ownership details, and links to related sources. |
| Integrations | The project documents connectors and content packs for technologies including PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, Db2, DuckDB, Unity Catalog, Apache Atlas, and Apache Kafka. | The product site lists integrations including MongoDB, ClickHouse, dbt, Snowflake, Tableau, BigQuery, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and others. |
| Purpose | Egeria is an open source project for making metadata and related business context interoperable between tools and platforms. | OpenDataDiscovery describes itself as an end-to-end data discovery, observability, and governance platform. |
| Security | Egeria’s security guidance says secure deployment depends on both Egeria and the deployment environment, and describes access control, TLS, and threat modeling. | ODD supports authentication through LDAP, and its documentation warns against using its simple login-form authentication in production. |

In their own words
Egeria
Egeria is an open-source project for enabling metadata and context interoperability across people, tools and platforms used in AI and data science. Its open metadata schema contains more than 600 types for describing an enterprise’s digital business. Specialist servers capture, analyze, search and manage metadata, and can extract, store and synchronize information across technologies. Egeria supports metadata exchange, linking and federation across different repositories, with frameworks intended to accommodate custom types, variations and systems. Its feature catalog includes cataloguing, lineage management, discovery, metadata security and synchronized access control. Discovery functions include schema extraction, resource profiling, and data class, grain, semantic and classification discovery. Connectors cover integration, repositories, runtime, security and REST client access. Documented content packs include PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, Db2 for LUW, DuckDB, Unity Catalog, Apache Atlas and Apache Kafka. Interfaces include Egeria Explorer, Lineage Explorer, Data Mesh, The Catalog, Egeria Operations and Egeria Audit. It can run in a Docker container, standalone or as part of Kubernetes deployments. The community edition is free to use.
OpenDataDiscovery Platform
OpenDataDiscovery Platform is an open-source catalog for finding and governing data products across data teams. Search and facet filters help users locate metadata by source, owner, or tag, then explore ownership and related links. The platform traces data objects and microservices end to end, imports data quality test results, and shows dataset quality status. It also catalogs machine-learning experiment metadata and lineage and supports experiment logging, connecting data science and data engineering work. Teams can access collected metadata through a web interface or REST API, and deploy with Docker Compose, Kubernetes and Helm charts, or AWS Marketplace QuickLaunch. The catalog uses an open metadata collection standard to connect catalogs, tools, and feature stores; Lookup Tables support reference data governance. ODD supports LDAP authentication and USER and ADMIN roles. Its documentation cautions against simple login-form authentication in production. Metadata attachments are limited to 20 MB, while links can point to larger or remotely stored files. The platform is free and open source, with public development.
