Overview

Jarvis Legal connects contacts, matters, tasks, deadlines, time records, invoicing and performance reporting. Tracked time can feed invoices, with automatic client reminders to help reduce collection follow-up. Document storage is cloud-hosted in France; sovereign data hosting and GDPR compliance are included in the plans. The maker is based in Paris, was founded in 2013, and was acquired by LexisNexis in 2024.

Key features

Matter work, time and billing

The entry tier combines matter and task management with time tracking, billing, reporting, email synchronization and mobile access. Recording time against matters and using it to build invoices gives firms a joined-up way to connect work and billing. Firms needing document management or two-way calendar synchronization must move to Essentielle+.

Documents and collaboration

Jarvis centralizes files and documents, with templates, secure sharing, tags and search. Essentielle+ adds document management, Office 365 synchronization, offline access to documents on Mac and PC, and bidirectional calendar synchronization. Copilote adds document templates and editing, an e-signature workflow, client-task templates, a client portal, accounting exports and Deliveract service of documents. That makes Copilote the more suitable tier for firms wanting client-facing workflows, but it is a substantial step up from the entry plan.

AI and analytics

Copilote+ includes Protégé, which can organize files, summarize and compare documents, draft legal documents, translate materials and answer legal questions using Lexis+ sources. The plan also adds integrated LexisNexis legal research, document analysis and processing, task automation and Jarvis Analytics dashboards with customizable indicators. The sovereign AI offer is described as preserving data confidentiality. These tools may suit firms seeking to automate more work, but they are confined to the €149 per user per month tier.

Pricing

Jarvis Legal has no free plan. Its 14-day free trial requires no commitment or credit card, giving firms a short period to assess the workflow before choosing a paid tier.

Essentielle — €38.00 per month per user, before tax: Contacts, matters and tasks; billing and time tracking; reporting; email synchronization and mobile access; customizable fields; support, updates, GDPR compliance and sovereign data hosting. It is the fit for firms that need core practice management, but not document management or calendar sync.
Essentielle+ — €48.00 per month per user: Adds document management, Office 365 synchronization, offline document access on Mac and PC, and two-way calendar synchronization. Choose it when files and calendars need to sit inside the same workflow.
Copilote — €89.00 per month per user: Adds document templates and editing, eParapheur, client task templates, an Outlook module for Mac and PC with Smart Reply, a client portal, accounting exports and Deliveract service of documents. This is the practical step for firms that need client collaboration and richer document workflows.
Copilote+ — €149.00 per month per user: Adds Protégé, LexisNexis legal research, document analysis and processing, task automation and Jarvis Analytics. The price premium makes sense only if a firm expects to use those AI and analytics capabilities.

The quoted Essentielle rate is explicitly before tax; the other plan rates are stated per user per month. The maker says pricing has no hidden costs, and support and updates are included with Essentielle.

Platforms

Jarvis Legal runs on the web, Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. Offline document access on Mac and PC is included from Essentielle+, rather than the entry tier.

Who it's for

Jarvis Legal is designed for lawyers and law firms that want matter administration and billing alongside document and client workflows. Essentielle is a focused starting point for firms prioritizing time, invoices and reporting. Essentielle+ is better for teams that need synced files and calendars; Copilote suits those adding client-facing collaboration. Firms that do not need the higher-tier features may find the per-user upgrade ladder difficult to justify.

Pros and cons

Pros: Matter-based time tracking can feed invoicing, tying work records to billing.
Pros: Plans include GDPR compliance and sovereign data hosting, with documents hosted in France.
Pros: The tier structure lets firms add document management, client-portal workflows and AI as their needs grow.
Cons: Document management and calendar synchronization are absent from Essentielle, so firms needing them must pay more.
Cons: Protégé, legal research, automation and analytics are reserved for the €149 plan.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, see Legal Practice Management Software.

8am MyCase is worth considering for a firm that wants a free plan or prefers its MyCase Basic case, contact, time-entry and invoicing offer at 50.00 USD per month billed annually; it supports iOS and macOS.
HoudiniEsq is the alternative to consider when a solo practitioner needs a perpetually free one-user license, or when broader platform coverage including self-hosting matters.
Lexzur may suit teams looking for plans sized from 3–5 users to as many as 50; its Basic, Business and Enterprise plans use custom pricing.
Filevine offers custom-built packages with matter and document management and billing, with optional intake, deposition, signature and AI packages; choose it when that package approach better matches the firm’s needs.
CosmoLex is a relevant alternative for firms prioritizing trust accounting and ledgers alongside time tracking and invoicing; its Launch plan is 49.00 USD per user per month, billed monthly.
DPS Legal Software is another option for firms comparing legal software across web, desktop, mobile and self-hosted platforms.
CaseFox suits a solo user who can work within a free plan capped at four cases and two added users; its Professional plan is 45.00 USD per month.
LEAP is an alternative for firms seeking a tailored per-user subscription that combines case management, document automation, legal accounting and billing, and legal AI.

Verdict

Jarvis Legal is a strong fit for law firms that want matter management, time-to-invoice billing and data hosting in France, with the option to add document collaboration and AI in higher tiers. Its clearest reason to choose is the breadth of that connected workflow; its clearest reason to look elsewhere is the steep per-user jump to access the portal, automation and analytics.
