Overview

Elementor is a visual site builder for WordPress, best suited to creators and teams who want to shape pages, store fronts, and site-wide layouts in one editor. Its free plugin makes it possible to start without a subscription, but desktop-only editing and annual, site-limited plans are important constraints.

The product combines a live drag-and-drop editor with tools to build and manage WordPress sites. It is made by Elementor, founded in 2016 and headquartered in Israel. Elementor says its platform powers more than 22 million sites and 13% of the web, with a new site created every three seconds.

Key features

Visual building and content

The free plugin includes the core editor, essential builder features, and 32 widgets. Elementor advertises more than 100 design, marketing, and ecommerce widgets overall, alongside a theme builder, popup builder, dynamic content, and a 10-template library. That breadth supports work beyond individual landing pages, though the small template count means the library is not a deep set of ready-made starting points.

Version 4 introduces the Atomic Editor, with Classes, Variables, reusable Components, lighter CSS, and single-div wrappers. These are tools for organizing and reusing design work, particularly useful on sites with repeated patterns. Essential includes Dynamic Content, but excludes custom fields and post types, so it is a limited fit for projects that depend on those content structures.

AI, ecommerce, and integrations

Elementor supports designing and building WooCommerce stores. Elementor One adds AI generation for pages, layouts, images, content, and code through a shared monthly credit system. Its One plan includes 25,000 monthly credits, while One Agency includes 350,000; the credit allowance makes usage planning part of choosing between them.

The builder supports more than 60,000 WordPress repository plugins. Form integrations include Mailchimp, MailPoet, ActiveCampaign, Campaign Monitor, GetResponse, Drip, HubSpot, Zapier, Slack, Discord, and webhooks. These integrations require plugin subscriptions on Advanced plans or above, or hosting on Business plans or above or Sell+ Pro plans or above. Elementor MCP also connects sites to Claude, Codex, Cursor, and more.

Some plans include collaborative notes for team feedback. Elementor provides a Help Center and says its Facebook Elementor Community has over 150,000 WordPress creators. AI support is available around the clock and provides tailored answers.

Hosting and security

Elementor Host is a standalone cloud-based package that combines WordPress, Elementor Pro, managed hosting, Google Cloud, and Cloudflare CDN, with autoscaling and security. Enterprise sites receive threat monitoring, vulnerability scans, and performance audits, and the enterprise offering states 99.99% uptime with adaptive infrastructure. Elementor describes security measures including multifactor authentication, real-time monitoring, encrypted data, and managed penetration tests, and says it takes steps toward GDPR and CCPA readiness.

Pricing

Elementor has a free tier and no free trial. Paid plans are displayed with annual billing and renew at the regular rate; the pricing page states a 30-day money-back guarantee. Paid plan prices are custom pricing.

Free Editor: The no-cost plugin gives users the core drag-and-drop editor, essential builder features, and 32 widgets. It is a practical starting point for basic WordPress sites, but does not include the broader Editor Pro widget set.
Essential: For a basic website, with one site and 57 Editor Pro widgets. Dynamic Content is included, but custom fields and post types are not.
Advanced Solo: For a single professional or ecommerce website, with one site.
Advanced: For professional and ecommerce websites, with three sites. It is a better fit than Solo when the work spans several properties.
Expert: For freelancers who need multiple sites, with a 25-site limit.
One: A toolkit to create, optimize, and manage one site, with 25,000 monthly One credits.
One Agency: An agency plan with unlimited sites and 350,000 monthly One credits, suited to larger multi-site workloads.

The site caps make the lower tiers poor fits for freelancers managing many client properties, while the higher-cap plans avoid that restriction. Readers who need AI generation should compare the One credit allowances with their expected use.

Platforms

Elementor is built for WordPress websites, including self-hosted WordPress.org and WordPress.com sites; WordPress.com users need the Business plan to use it. Editing is limited to desktop computers, with no editing on phones or tablets. That is a meaningful drawback for site owners who need to make changes while away from a computer.

Who it's for

Elementor suits WordPress creators who value visual layout control, need tools for themes, dynamic content, popups, or WooCommerce, and want to extend their site through a large plugin ecosystem. Agencies and freelancers should match the plan's site limit and, if using Elementor One, its monthly credit allowance to the number and scale of projects they handle. It is less suitable for people who expect to edit sites on mobile devices or WordPress.com users who do not have the Business plan.

Its practice-area pages, lawyer profiles, location pages, and resource library make it relevant to law firm sites. Compare options in Law Firm Website Builders, Dental Website Builders, Landing Page Builders, WordPress page builders, and Website builders.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free plugin offers the core visual editor and 32 widgets, so users can begin building without paying.
Pro: Theme, popup, dynamic-content, and WooCommerce tools cover more of a WordPress site's needs than page layout alone.
Pro: Support for more than 60,000 repository plugins and a broad set of form integrations gives site owners many routes to connect services.
Con: Editing is desktop-only, ruling out phone and tablet changes.
Con: Plan site limits range from one site to 25 sites, with unlimited sites reserved for One Agency.
Con: Essential's Dynamic Content does not extend to custom fields or post types, and integrations require higher plans or qualifying hosting tiers.
Con: Annual billing and renewal at the regular rate make the commitment more consequential than a monthly plan.

Alternatives

Choose Breakdance if unlimited websites on a free plan with basic features, 80 elements, and basic WooCommerce, form, and popup tools better match your needs. Choose Zion Builder if its free visual editor, 50-plus core elements, 50-plus blocks, and 10-plus templates are a better fit. Brizy AI is another freemium option, with a Personal plan at 19.00 USD per month billed monthly that includes an AI Builder and one website.

Divi is a paid alternative with a Divi plan at 89.00 USD per year billed yearly, including unlimited website usage. Visual Composer offers a free tier with 50-plus elements and templates, or a Single plan at 49.00 USD per year for one website. Choose Bricks if its paid Starter plan at 79.00 USD per year for one website is a better match. Pagelayer and Kubio AI are also alternatives.

Verdict

Choose Elementor if you want a WordPress-first visual builder that can handle site-wide design, dynamic content, ecommerce, and a large plugin ecosystem, with a free tier to start. Look elsewhere if mobile editing is essential, if you need custom fields or post types on the entry paid tier, or if annual billing and site caps do not suit your workload.
