In their own words
Ente Auth
Ente Auth is a free authenticator for storing TOTP and HOTP two-factor codes. It is available on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, and web, with encrypted sync across mobile, desktop, and web devices. Account users can use end-to-end encrypted cloud backups; the maker says the cryptography has been externally audited. Ente Auth is open source and supports importing and exporting codes. Native imports are listed for 2FAS Authenticator, Aegis, andOTP, Bitwarden, Google Authenticator, LastPass, Proton, and Raivo OTP. Codes can be organized with search, tags, pins, notes, multi-select, and custom sorting, or shared through links that expire after 2, 5, or 10 minutes. Exports include plain text, encrypted files, and HTML QR codes compatible with Google Authenticator. The app can be used without an account, but those codes remain on the device and are not synced or backed up to Ente. App lock can use a device lock, PIN, or password; it protects the interface, not by re-encrypting Auth data.
Proton Authenticator
Proton Authenticator generates time-based one-time codes for two-factor authentication, adding a code at login to help secure accounts. It can display codes without an internet connection, and a Proton Account is not required to use it. Signing in is optional and enables code syncing across devices. Users can import codes from Google Authenticator, 2FAS, Aegis Authenticator, Bitwarden Authenticator, Ente Auth, and LastPass Authenticator, then export their codes from the app. Backups can be stored locally or in the cloud, with end-to-end encrypted sync between devices. Proton says its servers cannot access synced data in unencrypted form; when sync is on, entries are protected with 256-bit AES-GCM. The app is open source, and its vault can be unlocked with face or fingerprint recognition. It is available for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows; Android is also available through F-Droid. Proton Authenticator is free on all listed platforms, with no ads or tracking.
