In their own words
Ente Photos
Ente Photos is an end-to-end encrypted photo service for backing up and accessing images across devices. Its apps encrypt photos and metadata on the device before upload, and can back up new photos in the background. On-device AI recognizes faces and photo elements to support natural-language search. Users can revisit curated memories and share encrypted albums or browser links, with password and expiry options for links. Album owners can allow others to contribute photos, including people without an Ente account. Ente documents imports from Google Photos, Apple Photos, Amazon Photos, and local storage; its desktop app supports incremental export. The Free plan includes 10 GB and one replica. Paid plans start with Starter at $2.49 a month, which includes 50 GB. Paid subscribers can share storage with up to five family members, each with a private space. Ente says it stores three encrypted copies across providers and EU locations. It also says it cannot recover an account or data if a user loses both the password and recovery key while logged out of all devices.
Picture Keeper
Picture Keeper sells backup drives and an app for backing up and organizing photos, videos, contacts and files. To begin, connect a drive, open the app or drive application, and select Start Backup; later backups skip photos already saved. The app also includes Find a Photo, Magic Erase, Batch Scanning, Retouch, Colorize, Photo Scanner and Snap To Drive. The site says drive-stored photos remain accessible without internet or cloud services. KeepSafe offers continuous cloud backup for photos, videos and contacts from iPhone and Android devices. Its page says files are stored on private servers and accessible only to the user; the app privacy policy says cloud features may transmit and store content and metadata on Picture Keeper-managed or third-party infrastructure, with encryption in transit and access controls. Picture Keeper Connect supports iOS 12 or later, Android 5 or later with USB OTG enabled, Windows 7 or later and macOS 10.11 or later. KeepSafe costs $3.99 a month after a 30-day free trial. Hardware options include 32GB drives from $129.99, paid once and SSDs up to 1TB.
