| Deployment | The CLI can run locally on Linux and macOS, and production deployment uses Kubernetes with Envoy Gateway. | The gateway supports SaaS and, for Enterprise, VPC, on-premises and air-gapped deployment options. |
| Deployment options | The project can run locally as a standalone proxy or deploy to Kubernetes; the site also links to hosted services offered by other providers. | The product is offered as SaaS and can also run in a customer VPC, on premises or in an air-gapped environment. |
| Founded | 2024 | TrueFoundry states it was founded in 2021 by Nikunj Bajaj, Abhishek Choudhary and Anuraag Gutgutia. |
| Observability | The CLI supports OpenTelemetry tracing and can record request and response details; the documentation describes configuration to hide input and output content. | Monitoring covers requests, tokens, cost, latency percentiles, time to first token, inter-token latency and request-level traces. |
| Purpose | The open-source project routes and manages generative AI traffic between applications and AI services, with rate limiting and policy control. | TrueFoundry AI Gateway sits between applications and model providers to manage AI model access, routing, governance, observability, security and cost controls. |
| Support | The project directs users to its community Discord and GitHub issues for help. | The listed support options are an in-app chatbot and Discord for Developer, a support portal for Pro, and priority support, SLA and a dedicated Slack channel for Enterprise. |
| Unified API | It provides an OpenAI-compatible API for routing requests across model providers and lets applications switch models by changing the model name. | The gateway presents one API and key pattern across OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, self-hosted models and other providers. |

In their own words
Envoy AI Gateway
Envoy AI Gateway, now named Agent Router, is an open-source control plane for managing AI and agent traffic through Envoy. It provides an OpenAI-compatible API for hosted and self-hosted models and MCP servers, with integrations for providers including OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, AWS Bedrock, Mistral, and Anthropic. Traffic controls include model virtualization, provider failover, token quotas, and usage-based rate limiting. Its MCP gateway supports server multiplexing, tool routing, OAuth authentication, and observability; InferencePool support adds routing and load balancing for inference endpoints. Credentials can be managed centrally, and supported short-lived credential flows include AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, and GCP Vertex AI. The project describes metrics collection and monitoring for AI workloads. The free open-source project is listed at free. Its CLI supports local use on Linux and macOS; production Kubernetes deployment uses Envoy Gateway and requires compatible dependencies. The project uses the Apache 2.0 license and points users to Discord and GitHub issues for help.
TrueFoundry AI Gateway
TrueFoundry AI Gateway sits between applications and model providers to manage model access, routing, governance, observability, security, and cost controls. Its unified API supports chat, completion, embedding, and reranking models. TrueFoundry says the gateway connects to more than 1,000 LLMs across more than 35 platforms, including OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Azure OpenAI, and Anthropic. Routing options include latency-based selection, weighted load balancing, and automatic fallbacks. The service tracks token usage, latency, errors, and request volumes, and supports centrally stored request and response logs. Teams can set rate limits and cost or token quotas, with role-based access controls. MCP connections include tools such as Slack, GitHub, Confluence, and Datadog, with policies for tool calls. Deployment includes SaaS, with VPC, on-premises, and air-gapped options for Enterprise. Developer is free; Pro costs $25 a month, billed per user. Developer includes 10,000 requests per user monthly, while Pro includes 20,000 and charges $20 per additional 100,000 requests.
