In their own words
ExifRenamer
ExifRenamer is a free macOS app that renames photos, movie clips and audio clips from embedded date and time information. Its suggested YYYY-MM-DD_hh-mm-ss pattern gives filenames chronological order in Finder. Users can drag files onto the app icon or configure it as an automatic task in Apple Image Capture. A preview appears before renaming, with controls for naming styles, prefixes, suffixes, time-difference correction and sequence counters. The app can create a destination folder, move renamed files there and forward them to other applications. Listed formats include JPEG, TIFF, MOV, MP4, M4V, AVI, AIFF, AIF, WAV, MRW, NEF, CRW, CR2 and THM, with camera support including Casio, Olympus and Canon. ExifRenamer changes only filenames, not file contents. Some cameras may omit the required date and time metadata in supported formats, so extraction can fail. The page lists version 2.4.0 (15) and compatibility with macOS Sequoia. The plan is free, with optional donations.
reNamerX
reNamerX is a free desktop application for batch file renaming on Linux, macOS, and Windows. It applies text operations, case transformations, and sequential numbering to groups of files, and can process hundreds using consistent rules. A live preview shows the proposed filenames before changes are applied. More advanced options include regular expressions, date and time insertion, metadata such as creation date and size, and reusable rule presets. Users can select individual files or all files in a directory. Batch changes can be undone with Ctrl+Z, and the app also supports redo. Its interface has dark and cyberpunk theme options. The project is distributed under the MIT License, and the repository provides Windows MSI and EXE installer options. Windows installation requires Windows 10 or newer, a 64-bit operating system, at least 50MB of free disk space, and 4GB of recommended RAM. Building from source requires Node.js 16 or newer, npm or yarn, Rust and Cargo, and Git.
