Overview

PhotoBoost combines AI photo repair and enhancement with video upscaling on web, desktop and mobile. It suits people who want several restoration tools in one product, but its free allowance is brief and enhanced images need careful interpretation.

For blur, faded color, weak lighting and older photos, PhotoBoost offers targeted workflows including sharpening, face enhancement, colorization and upscaling. That breadth is useful when a single image needs more than a basic adjustment; batch processing also supports working through multiple images. The trade-off is that cloud processing consumes credits, with usage varying by enhancement and output resolution.

PhotoBoost says it will not use uploaded images to train AI models without first obtaining explicit consent. Web editor projects are stored in browser IndexedDB; cloud enhancement uploads only the selected image, and remote content is retained as reasonably needed for service and legal purposes. The privacy policy describes access controls, encrypted transport, restricted processing systems and monitoring. Its terms warn that enhanced results can be inaccurate or artificial, so they are not suitable as evidence of identity, authenticity, historical facts or high-stakes conclusions.

Key features

Photo and video workflows

PhotoBoost covers image sharpening, restoration of old photos, face enhancement, colorization, low-light enhancement and image upscaling by up to 4×. The range makes it a flexible repair option, though the warning about artificial or inaccurate outputs matters particularly when preserving historical details or judging a person's identity.

The AI Video Upscaler describes 2× frame-by-frame upscaling, audio preservation and MP4 export. Pro limits video upscaling to clips of up to 15 seconds; Max raises that ceiling to 60 seconds. Those caps make the video feature more appropriate for short clips than longer footage.

Input, processing and privacy

The web app accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC files up to 45 MB and corrects image orientation automatically. Desktop apps export at full resolution without the web upload limits described for desktop, and include unlimited local tools. That makes desktop the better fit for large images or work that benefits from local processing; cloud enhancements still use credits.

Credits are flexible units for cloud AI processing, and the cost in credits depends on the enhancement and output resolution. The privacy policy also names Plausible, Google Analytics, Google Ads and Mixpanel for measurement, and Paddle, Zotlo, Apple and Google Play among payment or app-store providers.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and provides two introductory credits total, core editing tools, cloud output up to 3 MP and no credit-card requirement. It is a low-commitment way to try the tools, but the small one-time credit pool and output cap make it a limited ongoing option.

Pro costs 39.99 USD per year, or $4.99/week, and can be cancelled anytime. It includes 100 credits each week, video upscaling up to 15 seconds, unlimited local tools, output up to 20 MP, two concurrent jobs, no watermark and the desktop app. It suits regular individual use where those resolution and job limits are enough. Max costs 79.99 USD per year, or $9.99/week, also cancellable anytime; it doubles the weekly credits to 200, raises the output ceiling to 32 MP and allows eight concurrent jobs, while extending video clips to 60 seconds. The higher tier is for heavier workloads or longer clips.

For credit purchases, the 200 credits plan is 19.99 USD per month, 700 credits is 49.99 USD per month, 1,500 credits is 99.99 USD per month, and 3,200 credits is 199.99 USD per month. Each is described as buying credits when needed. These options suit users who prefer credit bundles to a weekly allowance, but cloud usage still draws down credits according to the enhancement and output resolution.

Platforms

PhotoBoost is available on web, macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Native desktop apps support macOS 11+, Windows 10+ and 64-bit Linux; mobile apps support iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Desktop is the strongest fit for full-resolution exports without web upload limits, while the web app's 45 MB input ceiling and supported formats set clearer boundaries for browser-based work.

Who it's for

PhotoBoost is a sensible choice for people repairing mixed collections of portraits, old photos and low-quality images, especially when they also want short-clip video upscaling. Free access can help assess core editing tools, while Pro fits recurring use up to 20 MP and Max better serves larger outputs, more simultaneous jobs or clips up to a minute. It is not the right tool for decisions that require enhanced imagery to establish authenticity or other high-stakes facts.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple photo workflows, batch processing and video upscaling cover more than a single sharpening task.
Pros: Desktop apps combine unlimited local tools with full-resolution export without the web upload limits described for desktop.
Pros: Pro and Max state weekly credit allowances, output ceilings, concurrent-job limits and video duration caps, making their differences concrete.
Cons: Free access is limited to two introductory credits total and 3 MP cloud output.
Cons: Cloud credit use varies with enhancement and output resolution, so the workload determines how far an allowance goes.
Cons: Video length is capped at 15 seconds on Pro and 60 seconds on Max, and enhanced results should not be treated as evidence.

Alternatives

Consider PixiFixi if a free welcome-credit entry point and a 2.99 USD per month Quick Edits plan better suit your budget; it also has a free plan and no free trial.

Perfectly Clear is an alternative with a free trial and platforms spanning mobile, web, desktop, API and self-hosted use. Photopea is worth comparing if a free editor account is the priority. For another freemium option, Evoto AI has a free trial and an annual Starter plan at 89.00 USD per year.

PhotoPad, PhotoQuill, Aluo and BeFunky are also alternatives to consider.

Verdict

Choose PhotoBoost if you want one cross-platform product for varied AI photo repairs, batch work and short video upscaling, with desktop exports that avoid the web upload limits described for desktop. The strongest reasons to look elsewhere are the modest free allowance, credit-dependent cloud use and the strict limit on treating enhanced results as evidence.
