In their own words
Fancy Mumble
Fancy Mumble is a free, self-hosted voice chat product for gaming, podcasts, communities, and study groups. It runs on Windows, Linux, and Android, supports the Mumble protocol and Opus codec, and includes a noise gate, automatic gain control, and AI-powered noise removal. HD screen sharing uses WebRTC and includes a drawing overlay. Chat supports emoji reactions, edited and pinned messages, spoiler tags, syntax-highlighted code blocks, link previews, and file sharing. Sandboxed Rust server plugins are available through a Plugin Store. Screen sharing, file hosting, plugins, live document editing, watch-together, and Signal-grade end-to-end encryption require a compatible server; the maker recommends its server fork for full support. The maker says no analytics, account, or email is required. Users can run the Starling server with Docker Compose or a release package. The free plan is free and open-source under MIT.
Mumble
Mumble is free, open-source voice chat software for low-latency conversation and gaming. Communication is always encrypted, with public/private-key authentication enabled by default. In supported games, positional audio places voices within the game environment, while an overlay can show who is speaking, FPS, and the current time. Administrators manage users through an extensive access-control-list permission system. Ice protocols let server functions grow with web interfaces, authenticators, custom chat commands, and context-menu entries. The project supplies server software and supports self-hosting, describing low resource costs for hosting. Mumble lists gamers, podcast recorders, hobby radio users, and workplaces among its audiences. The core project uses a BSD-style free and open-source license. Official downloads cover Windows and macOS clients and servers; Linux users use distribution packages. iOS is marked unmaintained, last updated in 2017, while Android clients are third-party.
