Overview

The tool analyzes nginx and Apache access logs, with seven views aimed at diagnosing how bots crawl a site and where that activity may be wasted. It runs on a laptop without a database or cloud dependency, and its maker describes it as local-first, with no telemetry and no log upload. That makes it a sensible option for teams that want to keep log analysis on their own machine, but it is not a hosted service that handles ingestion for them.

The project uses Python, Streamlit, and Pandas and is released under the MIT license.

Key features

The seven analysis views make the tool useful for specific technical SEO investigations. Crawl-budget reporting divides requests by user agent and highlights bot-to-human ratios, helping users see how crawler activity compares with human traffic. The orphan-URL view compares bot-accessed URLs with sitemap and internal-link signals, which can expose pages that crawlers reach without strong site navigation support.

Status-waste reporting ranks frequently crawled non-200 URLs, including 4xx and 5xx responses, giving teams a way to prioritize errors that consume crawler attention. The stale-pages view flags URLs that a major crawler has not visited in 30 or more days. Performance reporting aggregates response times by URL to surface slow pages, while parameter-trap reporting highlights URL patterns with high parameter variance, including session IDs, filters, and sort orders. These reports are well targeted at crawl efficiency and technical friction, but they are not a broad SEO analytics suite.

Bot verification compares declared user agents with known reverse-DNS signatures to help identify requests impersonating Googlebot or Bingbot. That gives users a way to look beyond user-agent labels when classifying crawler traffic. Crawler segmentation and crawl-waste reporting are also supported.

The repository README describes uploading Grafana/Loki exports in JSON, CSV, or plain text, using a 30-day export workflow, and entering a sitemap URL. Direct Loki API streaming is a roadmap item, so teams relying on Loki should expect to export logs rather than connect a live stream.

Pricing

SEO Log Auditor is free: its plan is free and the project page lists a tooling cost of 0 €. The plan is open source under the MIT license and runs locally. There is no paid tier or free-trial period; the tradeoff is that users handle the repository setup and log preparation themselves.

Platforms

The tool is listed for Linux, macOS, Windows, and the web. Its local laptop workflow means it is suited to users who can run the app in that environment, rather than readers seeking a cloud-hosted analysis service.

Who it's for

SEO practitioners, site owners, and technically comfortable teams that want to inspect crawler behavior without buying an enterprise platform are the natural audience. The local-first design is especially relevant when keeping access logs off a third-party service matters. Users who want turnkey ingestion, direct Loki streaming, or a broader hosted analytics platform should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

Local operation, no database or cloud dependency, and no log upload or telemetry, keeping analysis on the user's laptop.
Seven focused views cover crawl distribution, orphan URLs, error responses, stale pages, response times, bot verification, and parameter patterns.
Free and MIT-licensed, with crawler segmentation and crawl-waste reports included.

Cons

Users must clone the repository, install requirements, and launch the Streamlit app, which is less convenient than a managed service.
Grafana/Loki use depends on uploaded exports; direct API streaming remains a roadmap item.
The analysis is specialized around log-based crawler diagnosis rather than a general-purpose SEO analytics workflow.
